AK Learning Series Issue #2 has arrived: Panzer Crew Uniforms

By David

Another huge shipment from AK Interactive arrived in the Hobbies Jungle this week and brought with it heaps of new Modelling Magazines & Books including the latest in the AK Learning Series.

Issue 2: Panzer Crew Uniforms has been written to compliment the newly released Panzer Crew Black Uniforms and Flesh & Skin Colours paint sets.

And judging from some of the included articles it appears very likely that a German Camouflage Uniforms paint set will also be on the way soon, which is great news!

Given that German tanks and armoured vehicles and their accompanying crews are some of the most prevalent scale modelling subjects, this guide will be of great use to a large number of modellers and will also be a fantastic resource for Flames of War players as well.

This issue is once again presented in a multi-article format, including a guide to World War 2 German unit insignia and some great reference images of panzer uniforms including colour photos of actual equipment and uniform pieces.

Each painting article covers a specific uniform style, including the typical black uniforms, Pea-Dot and Splinter camouflage as well as several variations of the SS Plane Tree and Oak Leaf uniforms. Painting the faces and hands of the crew figures is also covered in great detail with easy to follow step by step guides using the Flesh & Skin Colours and Uniform Definition Filters to give extremely detailed and realistic results.

The authors take you through not only the brush and airbrush techniques for painting the various uniforms but also explain how and why highlights and shading are applied to give the best effects. This means that the same techniques and theories can be applied to other uniforms or modelling subjects, from scale model figures to wargaming miniatures.

Be sure to check out the rest of the fantastic AK Interactive new releases.
