The Aga Khan Museum Guide introduces this new Toronto museum's vision, building, park, and Islamic works of art in an accessible form to the visitor and general public. It provides an overview of the historical, intellectual, and artistic wealth of the Museum's exquisite collection, which includes extraordinary Qur'ans, ceramics, metalwork, scientific and musical instruments, luxury items (ivory, textiles, glassware, crystal), painted and illuminated manuscripts, and architectural fragments ranging from the 9th to 19th centuries. Illustrated with more than 100 full-colour photographs and details of some of the institution's most important artifacts and manuscripts, the Guide celebrates the Museum's unique building, designed by renowned Japanese architect Fumihiko Maki, and showcases its splendid park, created by Lebanese-Serbian landscape architect Vladimir Djurovic.

Author Biography

Henry S. Kim is the Director of the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto. Ruba Kana'an is the Head of Education and Scholarly Programs at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto. Philip Jodidio has published numerous books on architecture and lives in Grimentz, Switzerland. D. Fairchild Ruggles is Professor of Landscape History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is the author of Islamic Gardens and Landscapes.
