I was impatient. I ordered the blu-ray from overseas in order to watch it early.
To my astonishment, the video quality is…breathtaking, to put it mildly.
This is perhaps the best blu ray product I have ever seen, with masterful video and audio.
It is of course made better by the content; a well-written, well-executed television programme that will certainly find its place within the television hall of fame.
Buy this. You will not be disappointed.
I bought this on special purely based on the reviews it received on MA and the net in general (i.e. I knew absolutely nothing about the series before buying it).
The series itself is actually really well produced. Both the actors (in their respective roles) and the locations are depicted in a way that really draws you into the relevant worlds created.
As for the quality – well anyone who has enjoyed high quality full HD/bluray will not be dissapointed. Both visuals and sound are top-notch, and essentially create the foundation for believable watching.
Would definately recommend to anyone who want to throw away a few hours in front of the box :)
Well its taken me a while to watch this series but now that I have I am hooked WOW so well acted and filmed like magic .........bring on series 2 and 3
Most interesting and complex charters and story in a tv show. Can't wait until the next session to cone to nz on blu ray.
Cant wait for the next series this was great to watch as I have the books as well
Haven't watched the blurays yet but of course I've seen the series.
The bluray comes with a foldout insert with pictures of the cast members and
their family tree (the tree is the official tree – no incest on it!).
It makes it so much easier to keep track of everyone.
Awesome.
This is a great tv series. If you like the books you'll like these also as it
closely follows the book unlike other attempts at novel based tv series.
Highly recommend to get on blue ray.
I havent seen a series like this with such high production values & so brillantly cast & acted. & while its a fantasy setting its is realisticly done, very little magic & creatures. Sean bean is the man!!!!! but the dwarf is a close 2nd. you will be hooked after 1 epesode. better than walking dead!!!
The series is brilliant, the special features add some cool background info and insight.
Love the show. Good bonus content.
Absolutely fantastic, can't wait for the second series what a superb adaptation from book to tv
I can watch it over and over… Seriously, I will sit here and completely nerd out over it given half a chance. Awesome adaptation of an amazing series.
Game of Thrones is a television adaptation of “A Game of Thrones,” the first in George R. R. Martin's coveted series “A Song of Ice and Fire.” As a fan of the books, I can honestly say it is one of the most faithful and enduring adaptations of all time. The 10 episode series features mind-blowingly brilliant acting, writing, direction, and art design. The huge production values mean the level of detail in the medieval world rivals that of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The show itself deserves five stars for being one of the most entertaining television productions to date, but the Blu-ray treatment makes it even better. The transfer to HD is flawless, and the wealth of extras is truly exceptional. Making-of featurettes, cast and crew commentaries, and even an encyclopedia of the places, peoples and historical events to do with the seven kingdoms of Westeros (and beyond) makes the Blu-ray version of Game of Thrones the greatest. Beware: the violence, profanity and sexual content of this show is very explicit – this is not the Lord of the Rings! Regardless, Game of Thrones is perhaps the best show of last year, and an absolute triumph for HBO. With the added Blu-ray features, granting this package five stars is a gross understatement.
My only complaint is 10 episdes is to short, they have done a fantastic job of cutting down the books to a tv series without missing anything to important, but still 20 episodes would be better.
Game of Thrones is one of the best television series out and its even greater in HD. There is so many great features on this addition, Get it ASAP !!!
The TV show is a gripping version of the books and in Blu-ray hi-def it looks and sounds superb. Some nice extras fill in the back-story.
Can't wait for the season 2 on bluray. Hope mighty ape will have it soon!
The Song of Ice and Fire book series has been nothing short of the most successful modern fantasy series of all time. Even more so, it integrates a lot more reality into the fantasy setting than most fantasy series do. There are bastard characters everywhere, rape, murder, the honourable loosing out because of their honour, slavery, incest, fratricide and so much more that is absent from the usual fantasy setting like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter (Except maybe the last two books).
When I heard the books were being made into a TV series, I wasn't sure if I should have been happy or not. Many a time I have seen a favourite book get turned into a movie or TV show and for the creators to move away from the original plot and characters rather quickly. Or only keep the most vague of similarity.
Game of Thrones does not do that. It shies away from nothing. There are scenes not from the book, as well as characters, but this is simply what happens when a book is translated into a TV series, especially one of this magnitude. But fear not, all the major characters are still there. All of them. Every one of the ever so many. Especially Tyrion Lannister, who is portrayed by Peter Dinklage. He is easily the high light of the series, second to everything else. And like the book series, it is just as disturbing, shocking and sometimes even downright brutal as the source.
Unfortunately, the TV series follows almost exactly like the book series. So many characters that you grow attached to will die, and usually in very annoying and terrible means. And like many things that are adapted from books faithfully, it suffers, for the fans, from being nothing new. While it is great to finally see how badass Khal Drogo really is, especially when he rips a man's tongue out through his slit throat, there are many scenes that would be a lot more suspenseful if a reader of the series didn't already know what was going to happen.
Luckily, this is fixed by everything else about the show being utterly great. The architecture of Westeros is still medieval looking, but it also has its own unique style. The actors, most of whom have either never done anything beyond a couple of one-off episodes for TV shows (Or never even been in anything other than a couple of TV ads, such as the woman that portrays Daenerys) and yet their acting is beyond what most Golden Globe awards actors can even hope to accomplish.
In summery, buy this. Do it. Now. Buy a hundred copies. It is all kinds of worth it.
