These are the theatrical release editions of the films, not the extended editions. The studios have, no doubt, delayed release of the extended editions in an attempt to maximise profit (read: dupe the consumer into buying the same product twice), even though the extended editions already exist and would be easy to transfer to Blu-ray.
So this product is only really recommended for people who really can't wait to see LotR in high definition. For the purists who want the complete experience, you'd be better off waiting for the release of the extended edition trilogy, which, with the capabilities of Blu-ray, should be able to give you the option of whether you want to watch the original theatrical release, or the extended editions.
Hard to get enthusiastic about this release which I assume is a boxed set of the theatrical versions currently on release. Haven't bought them as I suspect that most LOTR lovers will already have them on DVD and would need an incentive to upgrade to HD and would not want to do that twice. Now, when the extended versions come out on Blu Ray?
Great to see this in its BEST format.
Sadly the discs are not the extended versions, so ‘we’ will have to pay
twice. Haha
VERY enjoyable!
A classic story that will go down in history forever, now on blu-ray even better sound better pic awesome!!!
As a lord of the rings fan, I'm glad this set is being released on blu-ray, you don't need the extended edition to have that full lord of the rings experience. I mean come on people 50 minutes of extra footage in the 3rd film isn't needed! tsk tsk. Really don't wait for the extended edition this will have everything you need. If you want the extended edition buy it on standard dvd. I've enjoyed that set with all it's extras.
