Description

War rages in Midkemia but behind the chaos there is disquieting evidence of dark forces at work.

Jim Dasher′s usually infallible intelligence network has been cleverly dismantled; nowhere is safe. He feels that the world is coming apart at the seams and is helpless to protect his nation.

Quiet palace coups are underway in Roldem and Rillanon; and King Gregory of the Isles has yet to produce an heir. In each kingdom a single petty noble has risen from obscurity to threaten the throne.

Lord Hal of Crydee and his great friend Ty Hawkins, champion swordsman of the Masters′ Court, are entrusted with the task of smuggling Princess Stephané and her lady-in-waiting, the lovely but mysterious Lady Gabriella, out of Roldem to a place of greater safety. But is there any safe haven to be found?

Meanwhile, Hal′s younger brothers Martin and Brendan are attempting to hold the strategic city of Ylith against an onslaught of Keshian Dog Soldiers, and a mysterious force from beneath the sea. The Kingdom might lose Crydee and recover; but if Ylith falls, all is lost.

An unknown player appears to orchestrating these conflicts. Can Pug and the Conclave of Shadows track down this source before Midkemia is destroyed?

3 stars "Editing issues let down"

Another amazing story from Feist. But horrendously edited. There is an offcial apology on his offcial website even offering a free replacement to those who would like it when the second edition rolls out – wether thats available to us in little ol' kiwi land though........

Story is a bit short for release price. If you can stand soft covers wait for that.

For all feist fans – completely recommend it. Putting aside the editing issues this is another book that i flew through despretely trying to see what was coming and trying not to finish it.

3 stars – purely because the editing does effect it that much.

4 stars "Amazing Book"

This book is an amazing read the only issue I hav with Raymond Feists latest efforts is they are to short you just get into it then have to wait a year for the next one to come out.

2 stars "Appalling Editing"

This book, while decent, suffers from the usual modern Feist problem of being far too short for the money. It's probably a third of what it should be for the price. Additionally, it is easily the worst edited/proofread book I've ever come across with wrong words or missing words quite common. It made for a very jarring read and totally destroyed the ability to immerse in the story. Very disappointing.
