5 stars "A necessity for all trampers and hunters in New Zealand."

First of all I would like to thank Mightyape for such hasty shipping. I recieved my purchase two days after ordering.

Whether you are looking for an identification guide, survival help or just a bit of knowledge about endemic flora, i highly reccomend A Field Guide to the Native Edible Plants of New Zealand.

Throughout the guide edible species are described for identification aswell as where the plants can be found, what part is to be eatten and various cooking methods.

If you are an avid hunter or tramper why not carry along this guide for a bit of fun, and safety under survival circumstances.

My eldest son had one so when my husband and youngest son loved the book I bought them both one for Christmas. All happy with their practical present:)

4 stars "Very useful."

A useful guide with how to use the native plants. Could use better illustrations to help to identify species.

4 stars "An essential book for every kiwi"

Very informative and useful. It has drawn images on each page but further into the book has actual photo's of each of the edible plants. I would have preferred the photos put on the page they belong to so I don't have to search back and forth. Still a must-have book for any survival enthusiast or nutrition seeker.

3 stars "A great field guide"

This is the book to take with you tramping & camping, or even on one of the many great wilderness walks this country has to offer. Highly informative, concise & easily read. Small enough to fit in a jacket pocket, its a take anywhere book.

The only negative I have to say is, there arent enough colour photos. Most of the plants covered only have 6cm x 4cm black & white sketches, so if you dont know what youre looking at it could be dangerous to eat. Overall I give it 3 stars because of the lack of identifying photos.

Over 190 trees, shrubs, herbs, ferns, mushrooms, lichens and seaweeds are described in detail in this useful and attractive book, with information on which part is edible and when, how plants have been utilised, particularly by Maori, their nutritional value, and where they can be found. In a separate section, Andrew Crowe also describes important poisonous plants that are native to New Zealand or are likely to be confused with the edible plants.
