About the Author

Enid Blyton is one of the most-loved children's authors. With over 700 titles published, Enid Blyton's stories remain timeless classics. As a young woman Enid was faced with many choices: her father had planned a career in music for her, while she felt drawn to writing. In the end, she became a teacher. In 1922, a collection of poems by Enid was published. Aged 27, Enid married Hugh Pollock and moved to London. Enid had two children with Hugh, and soon after wrote her first novel, The Adventures of the Wishing-Chair. Enid divorced Hugh after almost 20 years of marriage, and married Kenneth Waters in 1943. Throughout the 40s and 50s, Enid wrote books at a colossal pace: adventure stories, mysteries, magical stories, farming stories, stories for younger children, best-selling series like The Famous Five and Noddy. Enid fell ill with Alzheimer's disease and she died in 1963. Her spirit lives on in her books and she is remembered as one of the most-loved and celebrated children's authors

5 stars "Great classic reading for 6+, imaginative stories."

Great classic reading for 6+ year olds, keep them as a collection yourself or give them as gifts. Imaginative stories that spark the imagination and take you on a fun journey with each chapter or two.

4 stars "As good as it gets in this PC age!"

I had all 3 of these books when I was a lad of around 10years old in 1980! Each night, with each chapter read, I would be transported into different lands at the top of the tree. The characters are fantastic as is Enid's imagination.

The fact that these books are packaged in a set means that they are less likely to get split up or lost. It also looks quite attractive in a bookcase. They should also be protected well over the years in the presentation pack.

The books I grew up with were hard covered versions from the early 1970's. I found them at early Saturday morning Flea Markets in Auckland, New Zealand.

The downside to all of the 3 books is that have become extremely “PC” (Politically Correct)! It's a shame really as it's not usually the under 13 year old that thinks of “other” uses for some of the original characters names. Somebody has gone through all the books and changed some of the main characters names and places and made sure that there is nothing that is going to upset anyone if you had to read it out loud at a School Assembly! Shame really as it gives the books a slightly “bland” feel now in some respects.

I own 4–5 different prints of these particular books. These particular books were bought as a present for my young daughters. I already read to them every night, but these items are for them to personally read when they reach the age of 10 years themselves.

If a child finds a book magical, interesting and/or different from their normal life, then they are more than likely to want to learn to read correctly.

Otherwise, as a soft cover set I would give this an 7/10. If they left the books in their original writing from when they were written in the 1940's and were hard covered then I would rate it a 10/10!
