Packed with dark, spaced out pop jams, the debut self-titled EP from Dunedin’s Snapper was originally released in 1988 with the 12-inch quickly going out of print. While, another southern band’s debut EP, The Bats’ – ‘By Night’, will be made available for the first time in nearly 30 years. Both EPs will be re-issued on limited edition 12″ vinyl and are exact replicas of the original release.
The Bats’ first release, By Night, came out in 1984, following the band’s – Robert Scott (The Clean), Paul Kean (Toy Love), Kaye Woodward and Malcolm Grant – formation two years earlier. The EP established The Bats driving, jangly sound that would go on to form a major part of the Flying Nun catalogue and find an audience around the world.
