The Weekend

Smashproof first burst onto the scene in 2005 with the explosive Juse-produced ‘Ride Til' I Die’, which quickly infected clubs across New Zealand and Australia. Now ‘Brother’, the amazing first single off their forthcoming album The Weekend, has hit #1on the NZ music charts! The thoughtprovoking song, featuring Gin Wigmore, has won praise for its honesty and relevant lyricism, dropping lines like “Man, take away a kid’s life just because he tagged? Damn”, alongside a Chris Graham-directed video grimly conscious of the reality of South Auckland life.

The Weekend album continues in this theme as the trio - Tyree, Young Sid and Deach - weave in and out of complex topics, personal experiences and would-be scenarios with ease. Young Sid explains of the album’s concept: “This is an album for everyone, it shows the social and emotional side of what could, or does go on during the weekend, from the time you clock out on Friday to the time you start work on Monday.”

Being seasoned veterans of the tour circuit in New Zealand and Australia, the trio offer a confidence and swagger unparalleled in local Hip-Hop.
