5 stars "Fantastic game - great for 2 players and even better with more"

Best game we have played as a couple – we started with the basic set. Then tried each extension. Found that the base and 2 of the extensions combined were great for 2 players but the other 3 extensions would be better with more players. Be warned – it is quite addictive. Really encourages strategic thinking and forward planning.

5 stars "A great game with added playability"

I haven't been playing Carcassonne for long and decided to get my own copy to play with my 6yr old (who loves it). So what better way to go than to by the game with 5 expansions! Better still, the box is very well organised, with a compartment for each expansion.

Carcassonne as a base game is a fantastic and palable game, but each expansion gives a new bit of playability (my son loved removing my farmers and knights with the dragon from the ‘Princess and Dragon’ expansion.

If you enjoy Carcassonne and don't have a set (or your set is getting worn out), definitely consider the Big Box.

5 stars "Quick to learn but with good depth"

Game is easy to learn and play can start quickly for all ages. Play is rapid and interactive so players out of turn do not get bored – though grater than 4 players may be a bit less active. The game has some strategy complexity – like when/where to deploy farmers – which can be learned as you go. With the expansion sets there is the ability to learn new variations and alter the tripe of play each time you play. Expansion sets work well individually and can be combined to give even longer or more complex games.

Great game for the whole family although with expansion sets the teenager and adult players will also be challenged.

Carcassonne is a clever tile-laying game. The southern French city of Carcassonne is famous for its unique Roman and Medieval fortifications. The players develop the area around the city and deploy their followers on the roads, in the cities, in the cloisters, and in the fields. The skill of the players to develop the area will determine who is victorious.

"Worn, dented, scratched. That's how I would describe my Carcassonne box. Wrinkled, folded, spindled. That's my Carcassonne rules sheet. Scuffed, rounded, frayed. That's my Carcassonne tiles. It's all well worth it though, for Carcassonne is my most played game since purchasing it 5 months ago. In fact, the same is true for my games group, as Carcassonne was the most-played board game in 2000 (see my article on Games Played in 2000) and is on its way to be the most-played game of 2001 as well.

In this review, first I will go over the rules briefly, then I will discuss some positive and negative aspects about the game, and finally I will discuss some game strategies..." Read full review
