"A decent historical war epic of survival in ancient Britain."
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

A fairly well executed film, the main character here seemed to be Northern Britain itself, much like the Lord of the Rings ‘advertises’ New Zealand. The script carries well and the battle scenes are visceral and hard-hitting.

My only gripe is a filmy filter throughout the work which made me wonder whether Centurion had been filmed in high definition or just crudely uprezzed for Blu-ray.

Description

Roman Britain 117 AD. History is written in blood.

Centurion is an epic, historical action adventure set in 117 AD. The Roman Empire stretches across Europe, from Egypt to Spain, and east as far as the Black Sea. But in northern Britain, the onslaught of Roman conquest has ground to a halt in the face of the guerrilla tactics of an elusive enemy: the savage tribesmen known as the Picts.

Quintus (Fassbender), a confident Roman soldier and sole survivor of a recent raid, marches north with General Virilus' (West) legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon. But when the legion is ambushed and Virilus taken captive, Quintus faces a desperate struggle to keep his small platoon alive behind enemy lines. From cult director Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) and in the spirit of 300, Centurion promises to be an action packed adventure tale steeped in legend.
