5 stars "It's like a vampire movie, but better"

It's always nice to discover an old classic, something that still tells a valid story with today's lens. Blade is a movie like that – sure, it's a vampire movie, but it's not cheesy and hasn't dated in the same way many of its peer movies have.

At its core, Blade is based on a comic book vampire hunter who has many of a vampire's characteristics. Blade (the central character of this same-titled movie) is not your standard Van Helsing type of vampire killer – he's hard, brutal, and brings a level of ferocity normally reserved only for vampires to us on us.

It levels the playing field.

The start of this movie is truly amazing – the underground dance club within a slaughterhouse is a touch of brilliance, and Wesley Snipes' martial arts skills are well on display in this excellently choreographed scene.

If you like vampire movies – titles like Underworld – then you'll love this one. It's brilliant, polished and refined as a visceral experience.

5 stars "Blade one of the best opening scenes."

Amongst a number of movie-focused friends we had a fun survey on Most Memorable Opening Scenes. Blade was on almost all the lists – the scene in the night club.
Of interest maybe, the Madison Square Garden scene in ‘Highlander 'and primate in '2001’ were the other most common.
MA the only place I could find Blade, including George St, Sydney. My first involvement with MA and I was happy enough to pre-order Watchmen and buy two others. Well done Ape Guys. I now have the trilogy.
