Description
On holiday at her uncle's farm in New Zealand, Gretchen befriends Ronny, a Maori boy with a troubled city past, and Bevis the birdwatching son of a loathed developer. Tension is already high as the developer wants to buy and drain a local swamp for a housing estate, but Ronny's uncle is the guardian of a traditional Maori tapu (taboo/curse) upon the swamp. The swamp must not be touched-something sleeps there that must not be awakened. Something unnatural.
Gradually, the children discover the pieces of an ancient alien space probe named Kolob. During the series they assemble the missing parts and strange things start to happen. The probe was one of three sent to earth to educate the human race in science.

"An old TV favourite when I was a kid!"
Hey this is one TV series that is not to be missed. The rubbish they put on TV these days is pure special effects with very little story line, like most programs but Children Of The Dog Star is one of NZ's greats. Along with Under The Mountain, Ken Catran has done a brilliant job. The story is amazing, the acting very good, tho it is an older series you can over look the time and quality to enjoy a really way good kiwi gem! Time our kids watched something that is quality viewing and has a good solid story that's also fun and entertaining!
"Nostalgic blast from the past."
I remember seeing this classic NZ sci-fi thriller for kids back in the UK in 1984 and it was great to see it again over a quarter of a century later (I'm getting old). Charming stuff, with excellent picture quality on the DVD.
"Science fiction of yesteryear "
What a brilliant movie series I can't say I watched this as a child but wow to be in my early forties and watching this series now was amazing the electronics and ideas they had back way before the computer and all the graphics designs they have now, what a great kiddies series and with good country themes. A real kiwi flavour of how it use to be but the great ideas of history past, very good story lines and characters and actors.
