Description

Prepare yourself to experience "Neon Genesis Evangelion" like you've never before--director Hideaki Anno and the main staff behind the original 1990s "Evangelion" animation series return with the help of some new faces to bring you a completely revamped new "Neon Genesis Evangelion" animated theatrical feature.

Fifteen years since the apocalyptical "Second Impact" event, 14-year-old Shinji Ikari is summoned to the headquarters of the special forces group NERV by his father, the commander Gendo Ikari. Now this helpless child must take on the gigantic and mysterious angels in a man-made automaton called an Evangelion, without knowing the truth about his endeavors

The classic, beloved Anime series returns! The first in a planned quadrilogy of movies, Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone has all new scenes, CGI, narrative and structure making it the perfect companion to the landmark series while also being the perfect introduction for those who have yet to be entranced by Shinji and the Eva's.

Press:
"Hulking human-dimensioned modules with design pointing the way to prophesied amalgamations of flesh and circuitry, the Evangelions rank in the top bracket of contraptions dreamt up by Japanese animators. Battle scenes deliver everything required, and imaginative touches include the sight of Tokyo-3 retreating from the Earth's surface when danger approaches.
Assembled by a team of returning key creatives, tech package is geared up with the latest CGI software without betraying the sharp lines and simple facial expressions of the original material. Credited as "chief director," Anno's input extends to personally laying down tracks used in the film's sophisticated sound design." - Variety

5 stars "Fantastic!"

I may be slightly biased as I love NGE the series so as soon as the dvd of the first movie was released I bought it. For everyone who has seen or read NGE the story will be easy to understand as the film covers the first 6 episodes of the series. There are 4 films to in total the next coming out end 09. You are not alone basically introduces you to the cast of characters and sets the backdrop for the coming movies. The animation is beautiful and the musical score is similar to the series. The story flows at a faster pace and for 90 minutes you are absorbed into the world of EVA. I loved this version as it stays true to the series and I can't wait to see the next. If you have never seen NGE I would suggest to watch the series first as it is very complicated.

5 stars "Worth it."

A fan of anime… this DVD was a “lets try a show I've never seen” branch out. An it's one I'm glad I took. While it jumps straight into the story, its interesting an keeps you captivated. Can't wait to get next movie. Worth the buy.

"Great Movie"

I haven't seen NGE but I watched this and managed to get not only myself but a few of my friends hooked just from this and 2.22. you don't need to watch NGE to know what is happening, and it is a totally great movie experience.
I recommend it to all those who like seeing big robots fighting and things blowing up.

4 stars "An actually good remake"

A good remake of an Anime that left it's fans confused and dissapointed. This is a remake that not only pleases it's fanbase, but it also makes a good first impression to those new to the Evangelion series.
