Description

A young Australian man arrives in a small New Zealand seaside town which is the spiritual home of local iwi. He's to meet family friends who know more about him than he knows about himself. He will also meet his daughter, and their relationship at first will be stormy. He will meet a taciturn Maori whose 12-year old son is mysteriously ill. And he will learn about a public crisis which threatens the survival of the town. The young man watches the closeknit community come together to deal with theses upheavals. Then suddenly everything becomes personal. He makes a discovery about himself that change the rest of his life.

4 stars "Good film. Well done everyone"

I can relate to many things in this film having lived on the Coast 1935–1960. The acting is good and I loved the music. The story is a bit fanciful but that is quite okay. I suppose I would have suggested to the director that the men who set up firms at that time usually were genuinely concerned for the local communities. Many were second or third generation NZer's and I found the characterisation of the Owner or CEO of the freezing works too imaginatively obnoxious which did little for the credibility of the story.

5 stars "Well worth waiting for."

A NZ movie that I have been after for years-having relations in it makes it more special.
