Description

THE TRUE STORY OF GAY RIGHTS CRUSADER MARY GRIFFITHS.

Mary Griffiths, a devout Christian and hard-line Presbyterian, became a gay rights crusader after her teenage son committed suicide, in part due to her own religious intolerance.

Nominated for two 2009 Primetime Emmy Awards, as well as the 2010 Golden Globe Award and the 2010 Screen Actors Guild Award, Prayers for Bobby is the amazing true story of a mother torn between her loyalties, challenged by her faith, and moved by a tragedy that would change her life, and the lives of others, forever.

“Sigourney Weaver unleashes a raw, Emmy-worthy performance.” Entertainment Weekly

4 stars "Strong performances in an engaging drama."

While this story revolves around a mother's struggle to reconcile her christian beliefs with her love for her gay son, it speaks to religious intolerence in general. The true story of Mary Griffith is brilliantly and powerfully portrayed by Sigourney Weaver and reveals a journey from christian fundamentalism to idealism at a great personal and tragic cost. The story is engaging and thought provoking, the acting and production rises above your typical “made for TV” fare. Highly recommended.
