Description
Four hundred years after the founding of the Republic, Rome is the wealthiest city in the world. The Republic was founded on principals of shared power, never allowing one man to seize absolute control. But now, those foundations are crumbling…and two soldiers unwittingly become entwined in the historical events of ancient Rome.
A drama of love and betrayal, masters and slaves, husbands and wives, Rome chronicles a turbulent era that saw the death of a republic and the birth of an empire.

Reviews
“Across two sprawling season, as epic in scope as Gladiator or Ben-Hur, Rome never lets its feature film scale overwhelm the intimacy of the human drama. That drama is what really makes this series such a remarkable achievement…Rome is simply a triumph across the board, from its stellar writing, solid direction (including turns from such HBO vets as Tim Van Patten and Allen Coulter), and an amazing ensemble cast to its exquisite production values, colossal yet realistic sets, glorious cinematography, crystal clear sound design and all the many historical touches sprinkled throughout each hour-long episode. There is perhaps no better TV season set more worthy of adding to your DVD collection this year. Rome makes ancient history come alive in all of its brutal glory.” 9/10 – IGN
“Rome is a bloody good time that will be a standout in anybody's DVD collection. This series rises above the rest with astounding production quality, incredible writing, historical value, and acting that is second to none. In all honesty though, it's the package as a whole that makes the series feel so special. There isn't a single defining characteristic that stands out more than the others, which is quite remarkable. Nothing of this magnitude has been attempted before, and the results simply have to be seen to be appreciated. It's a shame that the budget of the show is more or less what killed it, but it could be said that it's better to burn out than fade away. Trust me when I tell you that Rome burns brightly indeed!” DVD Talk
“Returning to this masterful combination of meticulous BBC craft mixed with attention-grabbing HBO production gloss and sexed-up historical intrigue, it’s impossible to find anything wrong with it. An adherence to historical accuracy never once hobbles the action with any degree of dry academic intonation. Neither do the censor-baiting levels of jaw-flooring bloody violence, habitual genital flaunting, Olympic-standard profanity and pervasive atmosphere of moral turpitude in any way exaggerate..Ancient Rome…Serial drama simply doesn’t get any better than this.” Total Film

This is an excellent TV series and this is a great set to have! It is presented really well and is an asset to the DVD collection. The storyline is great. We have characters we love to hate. Really worth watching.
