Description

Betrayed by the Romans, forced into slavery, reborn as a Gladiator.  The classic tale of the Republic’s most infamous rebel comes alive in the graphic and visceral new series Spartacus: Blood and Sand.  Torn from his homeland and the woman he loves, Spartacus is condemned to the brutal world of the arena where blood and death are primetime entertainment.

But not all battles are fought upon the sands.  Treachery, corruption, and the allure of sensual pleasures will constantly test Spartacus.  To survive, he must become more than a man, more than a gladiator.  He must become a legend.

5 stars "Brutal Blood, Sex & Betrayal, Epic is and understatement."

Betrayed by his Thracian brothers, separated from wis wife and forced into slavery by the Romans Spartacus now battling for his life as a gladiator fights for his freedom. With new friends and foes that seek to deceive and destroy him he faces challenge after challenge of blood, sweat and tears in the arena of the Roman city of Capua.

Graphically styled like 300 (the Frank Miller, Zack Snyder film) this series is surprisingly made in New Zealand and stars many local actors (including Manu Bennet as the Undefeated Gaul; Crixus). Filled with brutal and bloody slo-mo cinematic fight scenes, lots of lusty sex and a compelling drama story full of Roman deception and greed you'll be on the edge of your seat from the first episode.

The intensity of the series builds as the episodes progress making for one epic last episode.

5 stars "If 300, Gladiator and Rome had a child....."

.....that child would be Spartacus.
This series blew my wife and I away when we watched it, amazing imagery, story and sets.
However for some the following maybe cons, and for others pros : This series is violent, bloody and sexy (think soft-porn), either your dream show or your worst nightmare.
We cant wait for Series 2, however may not be the same that the main actor Andy Whitfield is having problems with cancer :(

5 stars "EPIC!!!!"

When I first bought it,
I was like, the sex scenes are going to ruin this series. But the sex scenes were added for more action.
The drama involved behind the gladiator scenes is unbelievable. Someone wanting more power, someone wanting to kill the leader, someone wanting to talk to another when lonely or frustrated, someone backstabbing another. This is how you get hooked into watching the series cause you always want to know what will happen next!
Scriptwriting was great.
Andy Whitfield is a legend Actor while playing Spartacus, you get drawn into his character pretty early in the series.
