A brilliant show from NZ, that could possibly even rival Outrageous Fortune. Original storyline, with great actors and some really funny parts. Highly recommended.
Love it – can't wait for season 2!
I found this series refreshingly different, I loved it! Great characters and interesting storylines. Very much looking forward to series 2!
I found this to be very entertaining and I am looking forward to the next season. Thank you :)
When the Almighty Johnsons was first on TV I found (like many others) that it took a few episodes before I got really into it. Not so rewatching it on DVDs. Those thinking about buying shouldn't worry about wasting money on episodes that aren't brilliant – because they certainly are as good as all the others rewatching them.
Another great New Zealand tv series. I still miss Outrageous Fortue, but I thing I have found my repalcement. Go girls is good but I think this show is better. Bring on season 2
Who would have thought New Zealand could not make a great science fiction story AND have the sense to renew it for a second season- It is a gentle science fiction, like the humour, never dominating the story. Just the initiator for the plot; a place for the characters to play. And a great range of characters there are.The yuppie and the hippy mystic, the young adventurer and the god just trying to be normal. The female characters have been a bit thin but as there is more time I think they will improve.
I was hooked after the first episode. Well written, well acted a great
balance of humour and adult themed entertainment with a bit of Kiwiania thrown
in.
This is a series that needs support to keep going. That's why I ordered
the DVD
Oddly addictive, I was hooked after the first couple of episodes. Think outrageous fortune, take away the criminals, and replace them with gods. Hot gods. Drool worthy gods even!!! Its like magic with the raunchyness of outrageous fortune thrown in. Definitely worth the wait to watch, and I will be first on the list to buy the second season too!!!
Grade A NZ TV garbage up there with shortland street, just hope it does'nt last as long,ps its got that energy spot idiot who mimes every thing out with his hands. He makes me want to smash my tv
I'll admit that when I first watched Almighty Johnsons I was extremely skeptical and didn't have much faith in the success of the story. However, upon the completion of the series I felt a sense of satisfaction which was more than I got from the first season of Outrageous Fortune.
I've given this DVD set a rating of 3/5 simply because I feel that this platform is quickly becoming outdated, and a BluRay set would have been more sufficient. Perhaps that's something for South Pacific Pictures to ponder.
However in regards to the show itself, it does get the job done. At the end of the day Almighty Johnsons delivers and fun and wild ride into a new territory of Norse God's and Goddesses mixed in with that great New Zealand culture. This is one show you cannot afford to miss.
