When I first heard about this remake, my first thought was, why? The original is brilliant. I went to see it at the movies and was determined not to like it, but, you know what? This is a fantastic film. I don't even see it as a remake, more of a companion piece to the original, a group of different people caught in the same situation, and making the same decision to hold up in a shopping mall.
The story is really good, actually very different to the original and the characters are very believable. But the one thing all good zombie films need is gore, and there is no lack of that here. From explosive head shots to graphic zombie biting, the gore effects are excellent, as are the other effects in the film. I know a lot of people didn't like the fact that the zombies can run here, but I really like the idea of “fresh” zombies being able to run , it makes them even more menacing.
Overall, one of the better true walking dead films of recent years and a must for every horror fan.
