"Captivating and just pure awesome."
5 stars"

I'm a huge fan of this series.

Divergent is one of those reads that had me all night and I was done in under 24 hours. It's addictive.

Fans of the Hunger Games will surely enjoy this as it a similar concept of futuristic division in society. However there is a clear division in the two series and this one is a must read!

It's hard to write this review since I want to go ahead and jump into all the details, but I think they are better left unsaid and for the reader to find them out themselves.

However I will say that it is set in a post-apocalyptic time where their world is split up into five factions, each dedicated to a different virtue; the honest, the selfless, the brave, the peaceful, and the intelligent. When you turn 16, there is one day a year in which you are able to choose to either stay in the faction you were born into, or choose another faction in which you think you belong. For the main character, Beatrice Prior, she battles the life changing decision of feeling as though she doesn't belong in her faction. However, if she chooses to move, she will never see her family again. She renames herself Tris and meets a swoon-worthy boy who must protect her secret.

This book shows the world wonderfully and sets up for the second book, making me want to do nothing but get my hand on the second book, Insurgent!

"A true page turner!"
5 stars"

I started reading this book at 6PM last night, based on someone else's recommendation. It's now less than 24 hours later and I'm nearly finished. I only put the book down so I could log in and secure my copy of the next book in the series!

Don't be put off by the “young adult fiction” label. Initially, I didn't think this book would appeal to me because it was ‘meant for youth’, but I'm 100% loving it!!! I've never read hunger games or any other ‘dystopian’ book, but I think I might have just discovered another genre that I love.

If you order this book, I recommend ordering the 2nd book at the same time. Trust me!

Description

Paperback features over fifty pages of bonus materials, including a sneak peek of Insurgent, an author Q&A, a discussion guide, a Divergent playlist, faction manifestos, and more!

Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the YA scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.
