While it doesn't exactly keep with the tone set by Season 5, A Christmas Carol is a great Christmas story for all ages.
Following the classic story with a sci-fi twist, The Doctor tries to show the meaning of Christmas to an always brilliant Michael Gambon. It's silly, but a lot more emotional than previous Christmas specials and feels a lot less corny because of this.
Fish may fly but this special has a lot of heart and it's a great watch with the whole family at Christmas time.
While the plot of this especially made for Christmas Special is very clever, it's a bit, well, corny. A nice story, and well suited to younger viewers, but not as ‘edgy’ as the series. Nice enough though. Micheal Gambon ( Dumbledore) features, and always a pleasure to see him in action. I'd recommend it for your collection, or as a gift for younger viewers, but if you are new to Doctor Who start with one of the new series, as this DVD isnt as ‘cool’ as others.
