Having been a huge Fable 1 & 2 fan, Fable 3 came out somewhat lackluster.
There has been considerable effort from the developers in making a game that is, in their eyes, revolutionary. There is no start menu, no lists of items/weapons/spells. And while this is being promoted as a good thing, you'll find not being able to see what you have readily, quite annoying. Frequently, upon entering this revolutionary start menu, you are prompted to look at the latest DLC, almost 4 times out of ten.
‘Intuitive controls’ often falls into the category of ‘stupid’ and ‘ill timed’. Why shouldn't up on the D-pad always take you to the map, instead of only when the game thinks you might want to see the map? Quest reminders also take up a good 30% of the screen, and sometimes freeze there for as long as the game thinks you need to be reminded.
That being said, the voice acting within Fable 3 is very well done. The delightful addition of John Cleese to the cast makes for some light entertainment. The land of Albion is still varied and colourful, from the countryside to the industrial slums. The addition of the eastern land of Aurora makes for some interesting exploration.
I did enjoy Fable 3. It is still at its heart a fun RPG jaunt through a colourful world with interesting characters. Being not much of a challenge, it would be great for a lazy afternoon of gaming.
