The heroine is very likeable, she is hardworking and doesn't let herself be pushed around by the men in her life. The hero is a bit of a dandy at the beginning of the book, but circumstance and some hard work soon toughen him up, and he is much improved by the end of the story. This story didn't have the pace and power of other historical romances I've read, so it was relatively easy to put it down and pick it up again later. I prefer a book that keeps you turning the pages until late at night because it's too good to put down, but despite that, this was a pleasant read.
