Hotel California is Tyga's second full-length album. It was written in less than a month. It proved to be an intensely creative period marked by raw reflection upon his journey. The first time the Compton native had ever seen anywhere outside of Los Angeles was on his first tour supporting Gym Class Heroes in 2008. Now, he had become an international hip-hop star. That ride from rags to riches was a lot to think about, and it provided quite a bit of lyrical inspiration, to say the least.
On the album, his iconic YMCMB labelmate Lil Wayne heats up “500 Degrees,” 2 Chainz adds a little Atlanta flavor to “Hijack,” while Wiz Khalifa, Mally Mall, and Cedric Gervais take “Molly” straight to the dance floor. In an unprecedented move, he rocks alongside Jadakiss on a bangin' 21st century update of Tupac's West Coast classic “Hit'em Up”.
Throughout the record, production comes courtesy of an A-list roster including DJ Mustard [2 Chainz. Meek Mill], Cool & Dre, Jess Jackson [Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj], David D.A. Doman [Kids in the Hall, Ghostface Killah], The Olympicks [Birdman, Lil Wayne] and more. Due to that diverse array of sonic artisans, each track bristles with its own incomparable energy.
