This may have started as a “spin off” from the wonderful “Morse” series but I feel it has now earned a place in it's own right. Series 1 had lovely tributes to Morse throughout but the writers of this second series seems to have decided it can now come out of Morse's shadow which means the characters, especially that of “Lewis”, are more developed (and I'm glad they are still setting it in the beautiful city of Oxford). I hope there is a third series.

All of these – series 2, 3, 5 can be recommended to anyone who has a taste for a spot of detection. These stories are well constructed and very well acted.
Lewis and Hathaway are perfect foils for each other – Lewis with his down-to-earth sensibility is carefully balanced by Hathaway's more scholarly mind. A worthy successor to the Morse series.
