5 stars "Another knock out story in this fantastic series!"

Phury, a warrior in the black dagger brotherhood, battles his own demons… his decisions and actions… may cause a ripple of changes through his entire race.

If you are thinking about getting this book and haven't read the first 5 in the series, then may I humbly recommend you start with 1 and make your way through them all. These books are wonderfully written and have a nice balance of story and sexual content without it ever feeling gratuitous.

For readers who have enjoyed Laurell K Hamilton, Karen Marie Moning, Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, Christine Feehan and Jeaniene Frost

What I like about J R Ward is that her books weave a greater story from one book to another. I literally have finished one book and then picked up the next… several coffees later I find myself on the couch, curled up with the cat and one of these wonderful books half read!
Warning: You may get behind on the laundry or forget to make dinner :)

Description

Phury, Zsadist's twin brother and a vampire in the Black Dagger Brotherhood, makes the ultimate sacrifice and stands in for a fellow brother to become the chosen - one who will save the brotherhood's bloodlines. Tormented by the love he has for his twin's mate, he devotes his passion to the higher good of his race and forbids himself from being distracted by a romantic relationship. The war with the Lessening society is graver than ever, and the brothers need the few warriors they have to fight. Phury is resigned never to divert himself with love or put his brothers in jeopardy, until he comes face to face with the only woman who can tempt his heart and make him question his chosen destiny…

Review

"Starred Review. Wards's terrific latest picks up the Black Dagger Brotherhood of vampires where Lover Unbound left off. Phury, a sworn Brother who has also become the Primale, is wrestling with a destiny he doesn't want, an addiction he can't handle and an insurmountable feeling of inadequacy that bleeds over into his love for Cormia, his Chosen First Mate. He holes up at the Brotherhood's rural New York base. The Omega, bent on destroying the vampire race, is meanwhile growing ever stronger, and his long-held plan to destroy the Brothers, via the Lessening Society, is coming to fruition. Younger Brotherhood trainees John Matthew, Qhuinn and Blaylock are learning what it means to come of age and are immersed in their own drama with Qhuinn's malicious cousin, Lash. The stories all reach a shared climax, leading to explosive revelations that set up the next book beautifully. Focusing less on Phury and Cormia and more on the Omega's plot amps the tension on all sides. A subplot involving Rhevenge, John Matthew and the female symphath Xhex is particularly exciting, with Ward diving into varied subspecies, sexual predilections and questions of identity. Ward has outdone herself with this latest Brotherhood novel." Publishers Weekly
