Another great chapter in this Caribbean saga which must be as close to Sid Meier's original concept for the game as it is possible to get. The feel of Pirates is much slicker than it's PC relation (and I loved that). The speed of the game play forces quicker decison making whether in the thrust, parry and taunts of sword fighting or when in the governor's parlour as you attempt to charm the bodice off his daughter with your debonair dance steps. There are a couple of new elements for those familiar with the game on other platforms, outfitting your ship, dressing your pirate. A neat little innovation (for those as easily distracted by the plunder as I am) is line of quests that keeps you more foccussed on the end goal of rescuing all your family members – not that you have to of course! The only gripe I have is the limited two player involvement but then it has never taken two to Pirate. Great fun, even just to watch. I give this one the full five barrels of rum!
Don't know what it is about this game, but my 9 year old loves it. Choose a pirate ship, gather supplies, fight other pirates, rescue missing maidens, find treasure, then lose it all again, end up in jail, or your ship requires repair. Beat the list of famous pirates to become top of the list! Lots of strategies to work out. We have about 40 games, but he keeps coming back to this one without fail. Got it really cheap, so it's been a great deal for us. One to consider purchasing
It is fast paced and pretty involved. My son loves it, and really gets into the sword fighting and ship battles. He plays it with an older boy and the two of them battle against the other pirates…great way for a wet afternoon!!
I would, and did. It's a fun pirate game with multiple mini-games in it
too. Ship to ship battle is rather fun and interesting, a highlight of the game.
The game is rather open-ended meaning you don't need to follow a linear path. If
you don't feel like completing a current objective you can just go and bombard a
town to take over.
Different difficulty levels make it good for beginners and once you think you
are ready to progress onto harder difficulty levels you don't need to start a
new game but can change it relatively easily during play.
Some things can become a bit repetitive but it has a lot of replayability.
