5 stars "Brilliant"

Played a little at Armageddon and it was fantastic, despite only being able to preview on Xbox. Not sure where Connor was in the storyline at that point but was able to use a tomahawk (or something similar) to slit throats in a similar way that Ezio/Altair used the hidden bade. I was in the middle of a stealth mission (that I've never gone too well with, so I couldn't try most of it unfortunately) but the gameplay was great, very pretty graphics and all had that intuitive, easily play-for-hours feel of the previous games.

4 stars "Bad Start but amazing Ending"

The game was quite boring for the first 4 chapters as your playing as the english dude. but once you get past him it gets so much better! loving the skinning and hunting you can do, alot like Far Cry 3 in that matter. So Very excellent after the english guy.

1 stars "If you care about product support, AVOID"

Ubisoft Support are literally the single worst support service I've had to try and deal with in the past 30 years.

If you buy Ubisoft products, and anything – anything at all – goes wrong, expect at least 3 times their estimated response time before you see any reply. When (or if) you hear back, it's unlikely that their first 3 months' worth of responses will actually include even a single sentence that relates directly to what you asked. Keep pushing, and even if you get “that's a known issue, we're working on it” there's not much chance that anything will ever be done about the problem.

This particular game isn't totally horrible (unless you care about the multiplayer, which is broken), but rather than merely not recommending the purchase of Ubisoft products, I'd specifically advise people to avoid anything from the company. If you find a problem, trying to get a solution probably won't be worth your trouble.

Also, while the gameplay is good, there are still bugs in the game engine – most of them carried over direct from the previous games. More content AND less bugs should be expected in a 5th installment (counting the two AC2 spin-off games), but that isn't the case here. It's particularly puzzling when you consider this game has supposedly been in development for 3 years, and is built on a “new” game engine (it doesn't act like anything more than the first game's engine with another facelift though). The first Assassin's Creed was actually in a better state in terms of animation quality, and had less glitches than this game does.

Graphically, each individual frame looks amazing. Screenshots show off the incredible detail in the game, but when you watch all the games in the series in action, the positive impression unravels. From the first game on, each game has more detail on-screen, but with choppier animations because of it. One of the biggest points in favour of the original was the fluid way Altaîr moved. That major selling point has been diminished as the series has grown.

Compared with most games outside the series, even the worst Assassin's Creed release is still very fluid, with all the animations tying together quite neatly, but the only game in the series which AC3 compares favourably with in this regard is Revelations.

Along with the graphical problems, there are issues with clipping. The player character and some NPCs sometimes fall through the ground, move through walls and other objects, and just generally fail to react with anything like the realistic physics the game usually tries to work with.

In spite of all that, I won't say the single player experience is bad – the problems with it, while annoying at times, aren't common enough to completely ruin the experience. There have been other games I've enjoyed with worse bugs. But don't buy it for the multiplayer, and there's more reason to expect bug fixes in Kingdoms of Amalur (the developers no longer exist) than there is for anything with the Ubisoft brand.

If it weren't for the aggressively unhelpful attitude of their “support” service, I'd probably rate this 3 or 4 stars, but when customers are not merely being ignored, but pushed away for trying to help the company improve their products, even the single solitary star I'm rating this with seems like a generous offering.

5 stars "Wonderful"

A brilliant end to a fabulous series which has stolen many gaming hearts and has been one of the best gaming series of all time. I'm pretty sure AC3 would be top contender for game of the year 2012 and would really deserve it.
