Mass Effect 2 is a space-based third-person oriented RPG revolving around the player's particular version of the game's hero, Commander Shepard, and their continuing development of this character. As the game opens a variety of character classes are made available to the player, with talents, both exclusive and general, associated with each. With experience these talents are leveled up, resulting in the unlocking of related abilities and/or entirely new talents. The player has the ability to customize their Commander Shepard in a number of ways including physical appearance, gender, and certain aspects of their personal history, with the rub being that these choices can influence things like available missions, dialogue choices with non-player characters (NPCs), and character background.

Accompanying this main character are a number of preset supporting characters that the player can direct and develop relationships with, which again, will alter the outcome of the story. All the characters from the original game – for PS3 players referenced via the included digital comic – make an appearance in Mass Effect 2, but the immediate characters surrounding Commander Shepard are new. Additional new features that players can expect to experience include new alien races, a more realistic damage system, a new heavy weapons system allowing for maximum damage, a regenerative health system, a dramatic increase in the number of character animations available to Shepard and updates to the dialogue mechanic used when conversing with NPCs.

Features:

  • Take cover, command an elite squad, utilize over 20 weapons including new heavy weapons, and unleash deadly powers against your foes with an all new and improved combat system
  • Increased intensity with precision shooter controls – including a new location based damage system – deliver gripping action as you overcome insurmountable odds
  • Travel the distant, deadly reaches of space to assemble your team of amazing and diverse characters in a desperate attempt to save mankind
  • Create your version of Commander Shepard, customize your appearance, and tailor your own abilities and strengths
  • Explore an entire galaxy of unique planets and embark on side missions to uncover more secrets in the Mass Effect universe
  • Exclusive Dark Horse digital comic allows PS3 players to experience the events of the first game and make choices related to them that will influence the events of the current game

5 stars "Awesome!"

Simply Awesome, get it, stop reading and just buy it, Mass Effect 2 is like an epic interactive movie.
PS3 owners now get to see what the fuss is about on their own console. Mass Effect 2 runs an even balance between ease of play and RPG. It still retains a lot of RPG elements, character levelling, weapon & armour upgrades etc, but the game design makes it a seemless interaction. The amount of background data within the game is phenomenal, and its not even necessary to read it but its there anyway, planet data, character profiles, racial profiles, the production behind this is staggering.

The graphics are awesome and maintained throughout the entire game, no change of style just awesome visuals all the way, through with superb audio and voice acting.

The game is a trilogy, unfortunately PS3 owners only get to experience the first game as an interactive comic within Mass Effect 2, that gets you to choose key moments from Mass Effect 1 to help fill-out your characters decisions with this game. Choices you make within Mass Effect 2 will affect the last in the trilogy out in November this year… So dont delete your savegames.

Mass Effect 2 is a Sci-Fi epic that makes the players choices have consequences within the game, which gives the player a feeling of real investment in time and gameplay (prepare to lose a lot of your life playing this game)

Excellent gameplay.
Excellent audio and visuals.
Excellent game design.
Excellent gameplay.

Get it, play it, finish it, and then wait impatiently for Mass Effect 3 :-)

5 stars "Its about time"

OMG finally on of the best game on xbox is coming to ps3 and its gonna be “as good, if not better than the Xbox version.” according to developers. With more than 30 perfect scores by game reviewers and a metacritic rating of 96 this isn't a game you wanna miss.

Included is over $100 worth of DLC from the xbox version free as well as an interactive comic for people who havent played mass effect 1.

Also according to wikipedia its set to be released on January 20, 2011 in Australia and probably NZ as well so get your preorders in quick.

5 stars "Great Game"

This will be great game, it has all the DLC from the Xbox Live servers and appears to have less glitches than the 360 version

Lots of action/RPG makes it quite a cinematic experience, and the fact your decisions have an impact on the future plot in the game is awesome. Dock it one star because a comic, while good, is not the same as playing the 1st mass effect and transferring that character over to this

Also it's delayed to the 27th of Jan because of the Queensland floods, which sucks!

5 stars "In most peoples minds, game of 2010"

This game is amazing, great graphics, interesting game mechanics, and one of the most amazing stories i've seen in a game.
PS. The graphics are better on the ps3 version compared to the xbox, the lighting is better and the game is smoother.

5 stars "Amazingly good."

If like me you have never played Mass Effect, don't worry, you will love Mass Effect 2. It is without a doubt the best RPG I have played in many a year. It might be a little short for an RPG (40–50 hours) but due to its incredible amount of choices and effects, it really does offer a plethora of replay value.

Incredible game that should not be missed.
