Review by IGN
“House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut is one of the best reasons
to own a PlayStation Move in months, but that's more a reflection of the weak
Move lineup than the game being anything other than a solid light-gun shooter…
Still, let's not overlook what the game gets right. The grindhouse treatment is
cool, collectables dot the background of every level, and who doesn't love
blasting limbs off psycho clowns with a couch co-op friend?”
IGN RATINGS FOR THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: OVERKILL – EXTENDED CUT (PS3)
8.0 Presentation
The grindhouse vibe rocks with its film filter and love of gore. Sometimes, the
language can go too far and the story is nonsensical, but that's part of the
exploitation deal.
7.0 Graphics
The levels and action look good, but the characters in cutscenes have hair
cutting through shoulders and lip sync issues.
7.5 Sound
The ‘70s soundtrack is spot-on. Voice acting is stiff, but that’s part of
the grindhouse experience the developers are pushing.
8.0 Gameplay
Responsive shooting satisfies and entertains. The challenge could be increased,
but blowing off heads and trying to nab every collectable kept me on my toes.
7.5 Lasting Appeal
The nine levels shouldn't take more than a few hours to run through. There are
secrets to double back for and a new mode that unlocks, but none of it is
amazing. Just more things to shoot.
