Description

Haunting Ground cleverly lets the player feel Fiona’s state of mind as she explores the castle. Not knowing who they are and the plans they have in store for her when Fiona encounters its other inhabitants, she naturally becomes frightened and the control pad mimics the pounding of her heart. Fiona will also become much more difficult to control and will stumble and fall. To add to the experience, Fiona’s fear is also represented graphically with colour fading from the screen to be replaced by stark monochrome. By running away or hiding, Fiona’s heart rate and actions will return to normal and colour will be restored.

Fiona is aided in her search for answers by Hewie, an Alsatian dog, which she befriends by releasing from a trap. Just as in real life Hewie does not at first obey all of the commands Fiona gives him, but as his trust for his new mistress grows so does his willingness to do as she bids including fetching objects and even attacking assailants. The success of this partnership is crucial if Fiona is to solve the castle’s mysteries and stay alive.

Features:
  • Compelling storyline which is unveiled to the player as Fiona makes her own realisations about her past and future.
  • Highly innovative representation of the character’s state of mind
  • Ability to give Hewie orders such as stay, fetch and attack
  • Cut scenes directed by Naoto Takenaka

    "Stunning game!!"

This is excellent. A mixture of Resident Evil and Silent Hill. The story had me completely hooked, and I actually became quite attached to Fiona and Hewie. It's a very original kind of game, this is the epitome and summation of “Survival Horror”. If you're into those genre of games you won't be disappointed!!~

    My rating: 9/10

4 stars "Different, but in a good way"

I liked it. It is a good spin on the survival horror theme. You play as Fiona who is the girl next door type. She has no combat training or arsenal of weapons wich makes the game quite challenging because you have to make do with items you have on hand.

You also have a dog named Hewie as your companion, he helps Fiona through the story and you can set him on attackers when you are in a pinch of trouble.

The panic mode is quite clever, as Fiona gets more scared her vision gets worse and the controller pulses with her heart pounding. This is really clever because it draws you in further to the game. I found myself getting scared along with Fiona at times.

If you like shooting lots, buy Resident evil (wich is also good), If you want a good challenge definitley buy this one.

3 stars "No wonder it was 20 bucks"

The only good thing about the game was the price and that I can add to my PS2 collection of games. It's pretty cool having a dog(Hewie) as a companion though.
