The Harvest comprises of two long pieces: Firstly, ‘The Harvest Suite’ (27:18), one continuous track divided into eight sections, this is a piece written for tenor sax and effects pedals. The second piece is ‘Like Picking Fruit’ (29:39), also one continuous track, divided into nine sections, written for tenor sax and guitar.
‘The Harvest Suite’ was co-composed by Adam Page and John Psathas, for saxophone, looping pedals and various effects, so a large component of the piece is determined not only by Adam’s improvisational skills, but also the unique characteristics of effects technology.
‘Like Picking Fruit’, James Brown’s composition, is structured so as to allow the maximum interactive possibilities between two musicians. Adam and James have worked together for many years, and in this piece they draw on their common language and understanding to remarkable degree.
“I spent our studio time in awe of James and Adam. Listening to them go
into those remote unchartered territories was something I’ll never forget.
They’d come out of the studio with a look in their eyes like explorers
returning from months in the wilderness. Unique, ingenious,
fearless and uncompromising, but mostly, phenomenally musical.” – John
Psathas October 2012.
