Pretty good movie.
If you love Joan Jett & Cherie Currie then this movie will not disappoint. The director did an excellent job in casting Kristen Stewart & Dakota Fanning for these roles. They were very similar to Jett & Currie & were quite convincing. Fantastic acting and a great portrayal of how Jett & Currie started their musical careers by forming the 1st all girl rocker group “The Runnaways”.
Stunning biography of the band – focussing on Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning), the band's quick rise to fame, addiction, and the struggle of being “chicks” in a guys scene.
Glad to see Stewart in another role (which I believe she succeeded in portraying Jett) and Dakota Fanning breaks into a new age from the childhood actress she started out as.
The Runaways
The film follows two friends, Joan Jett (KRISTEN STEWART) and Cherie Currie (DAKOTA FANNING), as they rise from rebellious Southern California kids to rock stars of the now legendary group that paved the way for future generations of girl bands.
They fall under the Svengali-like influence of rock impresario Kim Fowley (MICHAEL SHANNON), who turns the group into an outrageous success and a family of misfits. With its tough-chick image and raw talent, the band quickly earns a name for itself and so do its two leads: Joan is the band's pure rock' n' roll heart, while Cherie, with her Bowie-Bardot looks, is the sex kitten.
