The Usual Suspects is a 1995 American neo-noir film starring Stephen Baldwin, Gabriel Byrne, Chazz Palminteri and Kevin Spacey.
Following a truck hijack in New York, five conmen are arrested and brought together for questioning. As none of them is guilty, they plan a revenge operation against the police. The operation goes well, but then the influence of a legendary mastermind criminal called Keyser Soze is felt. It becomes clear that each one of them has wronged Söze at some point and must pay back now. The payback job leaves 27 men dead in a boat explosion, but the real question arises now: Who actually is Keyser Söze?
The Usual Suspects Reviews
“A masterpiece of the modern film noir genre, a terrific performance piece for everyone involved and an absolutely outstanding directorial effort.” IGN
“It stands up brilliantly to repeat viewing, to the extent that you may never fully solve the riddle. But don't let that put you off; it's the ultimate whodunit.” Sky Movies
“Something quite different: A movie that's smarter than you are.” film.com
“For many true movie fiends, noir is the key American movie type, and the most fun when it's done right. The Usual Suspects is done right…Here's an intelligent movie with no special effects. You have to pay close attention, to listen hard to its cross-fires of dialogue.” Newsweek
“A near-classic blend of mystery, personality, humor and terror, laced with one stunning shock after another.” Chicago Tribune
“The Usual Suspects, unlike many twist-based offerings, rewards repeated viewings. Perhaps it just misses the genre-transcending greatness of Scorsese and Coppola at their best, but in its own terms it’s a film that (unlike its characters) gets everything right.” eyeforfilm.co.uk
“The Usual Suspects is the freshest, funniest and scariest crime thriller to come along since Pulp Fiction.” Rolling Stone
