Stones Throw present the new Guilty Simpson album, O.J. Simpson, a collaboration between the renowned hardcore Detroit MC & L.A.-based producer Madlib aka Otis Jackson Jnr. (hence the “O.J.” in the collab’s title).
Simpson spits testosterone-charged, inner city themes possessed of a sense of humour at times so side-splitting, it only proves how serious he really is. This rapper was raised on the field of battle & his lyrics spell that out clearly. The album is split almost 50/50 between Simpson-led vocal tracks & Madlib’s bumpy interludes & instrumentals. For years Simpson has been a rock on the Detroit hip hop circuit alongside the likes of J Dilla, Slum Village, Eminem (whom Guilty still calls ‘Marshall’) & D12, Obie Trice, Proof, Phat Kat & Black Milk; linked with Dilla on wax in 2003 & Stones Throw in 2006, before releasing his full-length debut Ode To The Ghetto in 2008.
