the basalisk is a solid heavy support choice for any imperial guard army, able to rain down large blast templates from behind cover outside of a minimum range but can also direct fire (requires line of sight) which negates the minimum range. this piece is especially good against “blob infantry” such as tyranids or other IG and can even take out smaller space marine squads in 1 hit. the only problem with the basalisk is that it has a reasonably low armour value and things such as auttocannons and lascannons are going to give it lots of trouble. if you can keep it in cover and your enemy at a resonable distance the basalisk is a real monster on the battlefield
