"Brilliant"
5 stars"

‘Watchmen’ is absolutely brilliant. Cannot wait to see the movie adaptation. Would recommend to anyone – if you need assurance, it's on Time's 100 best novel list. Also winner of the Hugo Award, which is a sci-fi achievement of some sort. The writing is spectacular, as is the art, Moore and Gibbons outdid themselves making ‘Watchmen’, and it shows. If you've never read a graphic novel before, start with Watchmen.

"Brilliant and Awesome"
5 stars"

Watchmen is seriously the greatest graphic novel of all time. You should read this book even if you don't think you like comics. The characters are brilliant. The plot is brilliant. The artwork is brilliant. The writing is brilliant. The storyline is just as relevant as at the time of writing. Don't read the plot summaries. Don't read reviews with spoilers. Just buy this book and read it through, you won't be disappointed!

"Good but a bit overrated"
4 stars"

There is a movie coming out so much more interest is focused on this book. Unfortunately over the years this book has gotten hyped to the extent that a new reader will no doubt find themselves disappointed it is not the greatest thing they have ever read. The pacing is slow by modern standards and the ideas are high concept for a comic book about superheroes. It will take a bit of patience and thought to get the most from this book but the effort is well worth it.

Description

Widely regarded as the finest comic yet created, Moore, renowned for many other of the genre's finest creations first put out Watchmen in 12 issues for DC in 1986-87. Exceptional graphic artwork brings to life the complex & dark story of the Watchmen as they race against time to find a killer, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance.

Who watches the Watchmen. Someone does. Someone who's trying to kill them all, one by one. Time's running out for the Watchmen…

It all begins with the paranoid delusions of a half-insane hero called Rorschach. But is Rorschach really insane or has he in fact uncovered a plot to murder super-heroes and, even worse, millions of innocent civilians? On the run from the law, Rorschach reunites with his former teammates in a desperate attempt to save the world and their lives, but what they uncover will shock them to their very core and change the face of the planet! Following two generations of masked superheroes from the close of World War II to the icy shadow of the Cold War comes this groundbreaking comic story - the story of The Watchmen.

"When first serialized in 1986-7, this extraordinary story took the comics world by storm, and its fresh approach, more mature and realistic than most other mainstream comics of the time, became a template for much of what came later…This remains a pinnacle of comics achievement, and no collection should be without it.."
