All of us that follow the industry fairly closely know, Peter Molyneux (The creator of Black & White, Fable, Fable 2) likes to tout his own games above all else, and this year he's been doing it again.
That being said, Fable 1 and even the major let down that was Fable 2 were both immensly fun albeit brainless bouts through the thickly woven fantasy world that is Albion. Although the games lack the depth of typical RPGs these games had continuously been touted as RPG's for there light RPG elements, leveling up, stats, grinding experience and such but they were never truly RPGs. This year Peter Molyneuxs approach has been, Fable 3, is not an RPG take it as you will but Fable 1 and 2 worked much better as slash em up adventure games as they did if they were to go against the likes of Oblivion and Fallout 3. So if the focus has shifted to making a stunning action adventure game then I'm all for it.
Let me give you a little history lesson, Slight spoilers, In Fable 2 you play a hero set about on a quest to avenge his sister on the way you meet a bunch of interesting people and here a bunch of wittily written british humour as you tap A around the world killing hobbes, balverines and countless other monsters. Until you finally avenge your sister in the most anti-climatic fight scene ever. In Fable 3 you play one of the sons(or daughter if you so choose) of the original hero, But you are the second son and the first son of the game is now the king of the kingdom, and he's gone mad with power, he's become Hitler, Stalin and Muscillini all rolled into one. It's now your job to dethrone him.
This is where the new dynamic of followers comes in, followers seems to me abit like a replacement for XP, you get followers if you go off and do a quest for a villager, you get followers if you go off and kill hundreds of innocent hobbes, you get followers for all manor of things until finally you have enough to overthrow your brother.
This is where it becomes interesting to me, as a secret power junkie, the fact that I get to play king over hundreds of virtual villagers is exciting to me and it sounds as though Petey M. and his team have created and indepth ruling system in which you can tax everyone and keep the money for yourself, build wonderous castles, invade and pillage, or you can play it nice and humble, no tax and live in a shack. The choice is yours as it always has been in Fable but if feels more like you actually have the power to make whichever choice you want to make in Fable 3.
Whether this game turns out to meet everyones expectations or not I personally have preordered it and although I was disappointed with Fable 2, it was still an immensly fun and playable game in which I have completed countless times over. Whether you choose to beleive the hype or not, the Fable games will always be fun, and that's what counts right?
I would recommend to anybody wanting to buy Fable to buy the collector's edition. This is a really cheap collector's Edition. For only an extra $10 you get heaps of extra stuff. In comparison to other games this is really cheap. $120 is normally the price for the standard edition.
Fable 1
Fable one was such an awesome game, The story line for the game was very good and unexpected. The variety of choices to make throughout the game that affect who lives and who dies, which is normally done through mini quest available on the sides.
Also the death of characters who are close to your character seems to really take its tole on you. Some choices in the game are very tempting e.g in the arena when you are given the choice to kill your rival for a reward was very tempting.
Throughout the game the choice you make affect your alignment, whether you character will have a positive alignment giving your character a halo on his head or a negative alignment giving your character horns (making your character look bloody ugly)
The sword of in the stone was also an awesome feature in this game because it gives players the motivation to strive to be strong enough to pull the sword out of the stone and be as strong as the legendary Huw character which raises your characters status and also makes you as the characters controller proud to know that your character is as strong as one of the legendary characters of fable
Overall fable was an Awesome game, loved it…actually wouldn't mind playing it again, for everyone who has not played it, id recommend giving it a go.
Fable 2
The sequel of fable 1, fable 2 was also an excellent game, slightly different to fable 1 due to updates in features and different ideas added to this sequel e.g having a pet companion was pretty annoying at first but eventually cool and helpful throughout the game because instead of having to run around looking for treasure chests, you could always really on your trusty companion to find nearby treasures for you.
More choices and are available to you to from the smallest detail of the game such as making the citizens of Albion like your character by giving them gifts and lowering prices in your stores, to deciding whether you want to save or kill the innocent which has significant effect on the future of your character.
The game-play for fable 2 was very good. It was not like one of those extremely slow RPG games were you'd have to walk for such a long time to talk to someone in another town just for a few measly dollars. On the way to other towns, you'd always have to keep your guard up because you wouldn't know whether bandits are going to jump out of a nearby tree or balverines would leap at you from a distance.
So I've clocked the game – took me approx 20 hours to complete. Now achievement time! I thought the map was awesome, though would have liked it more available from the main screen 1 button pushed not 2. I love the monters in this one compared to Fable 2 where these ones like the Balverines and the Hobbes are way more bad ass and harder to kill.
I noticed that with certain creatures, certain ways of killing them killed them faster. Such as the monsters from Aurora, the shadows don't like magic and the ones in armour don't like melee.
I did find it in some parts anti-climatic, such as the final boss and section weren't that hard to complete. Story line was awesome though and I wished I could have married that soldier that helped along the way. If you know where to find him please let me know.
This is seriously one of the best games I've played in a long time, I would
HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who loved FABLE and/or FABLE 2 or for anyone into
RPGs.
Brilliant Graphics
And Even Better story line
Out of the 3 Fable Games this one is by far my favorite.
I would also recommend getting the limited edition over the normal version its
well worth paying the few extra dollars.
Definite 5 stars from me
This game is simply awesome. Still missing some of the magic that make the original fable so great, but still awesome.
The story is great, so many plot twists, and hidden extras that you have to go exlporing to find. But that is where fable III really shines.
Lots of one liners, especially from the little garden gnomes that have come to life and insult you when you are close enough.
There are alot of little changes from Fable II that really make this game stand out. Gone are all the lists of clothes that you have etc, everything is displayed right in front of you, Takes a bit to get used to, but I like it.
Overall this game is awesome, bring on all the expansions that are sure to follow!
The reason why I am getting this game is because of the “chicken”
trailer of Fable 3. Definatly would be a good buy. The “Chicken Trailer” is
so funny you should watch it.
Plus. Is the seacond installment of the series was addictive then this should be
thrice as good. 5 stars!!!
A great game. Comes in a cool book cover with awesome cards of good quality with neat drawings and designs on them that match the characters in the game. The look nice and worn which looks cool. The double sided coin is nice and solid too. Was a great buy.
Not as good as Fable 1 or 2 worth a rent but it was a big let down not really worth buying!
This game is the best in the fable trilogy it is totally slick and allows for almost anything.
Game play is generally good, despite the numerous bugs which are being worked on, the leveling sytem is better than in fable 2 as basically all exp (Guild Seals) can be spent on whatever, and get exp from completing quests. The coin with the collectors edition is pretty cool and so is the case. If you can afford the exta cash then I strongly recomend buying this over the standard version.
Fable 1 was an amazing game and fable 2 was not a bad follow up but fable 3 although a new chapter and a new era, is more of an add on to fable 2.
The game continues on as you play as the spouse of your character in fable 2,
depending on whether you have a save game of fable 2 on your system directly
effects fable 3's immediate history, -clever and immensely entertaining-
Yet the level up and NPC interaction system has taken a new direction, making
talking to NPC's painful and leaving any RPG magic user rather dissapointed.
Graphics are not improved, same as fable 2, yet the classic
Gameplay of fable is still very much there as well as the addition of a new far
away land makes it still a very worthwhile game, if you loved fable 1 and
2 its a must!!!
Great continuation of the series, improves on every aspect of Fable 2. Must have for fable fans or people looking to get into an RPG.
Great fun , heaps to do , like every other fable , loads of side missions . All in all its a amazing game .
Fun, for around 4hours. The main story took me 6hours 30mins to complete, and I was well bored by that stage. Repetitive, easy, mindless gameplay. I'd hate to say it but worse than Fable 2 even.
Although a little slower and clunkier at the begining of the game in
comparison to its predecessors, Fable 3 soon kicks off into the familiar style
we have come to enjoy.
With its unique game play Fable 3 is true to its roots and gives the player
more hours of gaming to look forward too. The graphics are that much cleaner
than Fable 2 and besides being a seamless transistion from Fable 2 to 3, the
only down side to the game is that there are some parts that you will require a
Xbox Gold membership if you are wanting to get 100% achiements …
The game is a blast and the extra content I got from the limited collectors edition is awesome. The box it came in is also very cool.
At it's core Fable 3 is still a very buggy and at times frustrating game to play. But when it really comes down to it, it is still an inherently fun game to play.
If you are the sort of person who loves to rip through the main-story in games then you'll find that Fable 3 has a surprisingly satisfyingly short story that can easily be finished in 2 – 3 sittings. But don't let that discourage you as there are tonnes of new side-quests available to extend the life of this game past it's story.
For the first time in a game I finally feel that Lionhead is beginning to nail the whole “Consequnce” side of the game. Especially in the second “half” of the game, there are some pretty drastic descisions that can be made that really do shape the kingdom of Albion for the good or the bad.
However one piece of advice I would like to pass on is to do your best not to circumvent the choice system in the game. As stated before the decisions made in Fable 3 are carry far more gravity than that of another Fable game and if you try to “cheat the system” you'll be sadly disappointed.
The move away from the Adventure genre is nice, But not entirely necessary as it doesn't really add that much to the game.
The bottom line really is, If you have always enjoyed Fable and RPG/Adventure Gameplay then Fable 3 is that game for you. If not then Fable 3 probably isn't the game for you
Very very fun, definitely worth getting. I liked most of the characters, the quests were well done, and the sidequests and collectables and chests etc were great.
The co-op function is really interesting, and I enjoyed doing some quests with my partner :)
The environment is at times mouth wateringly pretty – swimming over a lake you are treated to distorted views of a whole landscape under the water, and light refracted beautifully from the surface ripples. The textures of earth and rocks, mosses and ferns are fantastic, and the dynamic shadows and light are gorgeous.
The clothing and makeup were brilliant and I enjoyed collecting all the clothes, but the tattoos weren't as good as in the first Fable.
BUGS:
The glowing trail often gets confused and points the wrong way, disappears, or
tries to take you over a cliff or through a tree. I ended up ignoring it most
of the time.
I think they broke the dog. He was so well done in the previous game, but in this one he's missing the personality and dynamic. By the end of the game he was annoying.
Also, speaking as someone who generally plays the female main character: I ended up having wives because I couldn't bring myself to marry any of the lame male NPCs. And being a foot taller than even the most well built men was offputting.
But the positives far outweigh the negatives, and hopefully they'll do some patches soon to fix these minor niggles. Despite having to play most of the game through again, I still had just as much fun the second time, and I think that's quite telling.
You play as either the brother or sister (you choose) of the current king. When the game gets going you have nothing just your dog, your first weapon is a magical gauntlet (Flame Glove) you have this untill you find your daddy's old sanctuary.
The Sanctuary:
This is where Jasper (your butler) will stay this is the place you go to change
your weapons and look. And a few other things that I will let you find
out about.
After you find the sanctuary you will start questing, you won't get your sword or gun untill you get to Brightwill. HINT: If your like me your not much of a magic user hang around Mistpeek or Brightwill and level up your magic, I didn't need it through the game apart from them locks you have to hit, shoot and cast magic on came up. And ended up wasting time after I clocked it just to level it up. Apearance level that is.
Orbs:
You still get orbs but they aren't used the same as in the first 2 Fable games.
Now the orbs are used to increase the number of guild seals you have. How to get
them same as always kill monsters or make villagers 100% fear or love you and
the first time you interact with any grown up villager will get you
some too.
Guild Seals:
Theses act as both lives and tokens for opening chests on the road to rule. If
you are knocked out you will automaticly use 1 guild seal to revive yourself,
chest cost varies they start off cheap but end up about 100 guild seals
to open.
Road to Rule:
This is the path you take in your adventure to dethrone the king. Here you will
have to use the Guild Seals that you have collected to open gates and chests.
The chests will give you things like; emote packs, job levels, buy houses and
shops, other magic and weapon levels.
Buying and Stealing – Yip you still can. Keep track of the homes you buy as they will get rundown over time and if the repair stat gets to 0% you wont make any gold off that house. “Thief!” LOL yip you can still snatch and grab but you need to unlock the pack for it on the road to rule, busting down doors will make the guards come running this is a good way to make a killer name for your self as I found the guards just keep comming.
Marriage:
Yip the marriage systems is still in play and yes she will still get knocked up
on the first try, but as with the stealing and buying homes and shops you need
to unlock the pack on the road to rule.
Kids:
Yip you can still be a daddy or mommy but now you can choose how, don't want to
do the marriage thing or you did and killed her before the deed was done or
maybe you can't because 2 men or 2 women can't without the other? No worries
go and adopt a sprog or two lol.
Weapons:
Melee – Sword or Hammer (download – Axe)
Ranged – Pistol or Rifle
Magic – Gauntlets
Your weapons will evolve with use there are 5 stages to this and 5 level ups
that you can get on the road to rule. There are 2 types heroic and legendary
easy way to tell if there are extra upgrade options ( eg. “Kill 50 wolves,
increase damage to wolves and belverines”) on the weapon then its a legendary.
Magic Gloves yous start off only being able to wear 1 glove but you will soon
be able to wear 2. Mixing the combinations of the gloves can look cool too have
a play around to see the different looks heres one I liked the frie tornado,
use vortex and fire power it up in any direction then let it rip.
Dog:
Breads – Collie (download; Setter and Boxer)
Like Fable II you have a dog with you, however unlike Fable II your dog here is
a pain in the ass. Its good for finding keys, chests and dig spots (at level 5),
but don't count on it in a fight from what I saw the only enemies that my
dumbass dog attacked were the ones I knocked to the ground.
Monsters:
Hobbes, Bandits, Hollow men, Wolves, Belverines, Bats, Crows, Kings Guard, Sand
Wraiths, Shadows, Armored Guard and Sentinal if I missed a few my bad. Hobbes,
Belverines and Holow Men are harder to kill than what they were in Fable II,
Bandits are about the same maybe a bit easier, Bats and Crows attack in flocks
but Axe makes short work of that or gun if your quick enough. Sand Wraiths,
Shadows, Armored Guard and sentinal you wont have to worrie about till near the
end of the game. As for the kings men you face them when you dethrone the king
so by the time you get to this bit your weapons will be able to
handel them.
Ok other than the little bit ive put here there is still more to find out so buy the game have fun discovering more.
P.S. If you liked the gargoyles in Fable II you'll love the Gnomes in this. They make shooting them all worth it LOL.
Great game and always different every time new menus are awesome and combat is finally fast paced and fluid
Almost anyone from a girlfriend who doesn't like gaming to a hardcore gamer
can pick this up and enjoy it. It lacks the complicated typical RPG rules, but
it doesn't take away from the fun!
The game runs like much of the rest of the Fable series, one button fighting
(blue for melee, red for magic, yellow for ranged), but to upgrade your skills
instead of getting points to spend on each skill you get guild seals which you
spend on opening chests on The Road to Rule, each chest has a skill and costs X
points to open and get.
The story is as I've come to expect from Lionshead great and throws a lot of
challenges at you towards the end of the game, but I was disappointed by the
end of the game but still found the game enjoyable and would recommend it to
anyone.
Where the game really shines is the co-op, me and my wife played the whole game through together. It plays much like the 2nd Fable, but where it differs is that my wife bought her own character over and not some premade option and she got to open chests on The Road to Rule and do everything I could (silver keys and other findable objects etc). She could goto The Sanctuary and make changes to her weapons and clothing and even view her fortune, she also earned a Henchman wage which increased the longer she played. You can form a partnership with a co-op player where all financial things are split even, any property bought is split and income is split from it while playing together (but henchman wage and separate properties are not split) and your fortune while playing together is combined. You can even take it a step farther and get married which lets you have children together.
Satisfying gameplay, tolerable AI, builds on the moral dilemnas of Fable
2.
Endings differ according to the choices you make in-game.
There are a few issues with object collision and dialogue overlapping.
Overall, a good game and a must buy for Fable 2 fans.
I'm a huge fan of the Fable franchise and was literally shaking with anticipation waiting for my parcel on the morning this game was released. On the whole this game lived up to most of my expectations that are predominantly built on experiences playing Fable 2: the voice acting is fantastic; the concept art is great; the storyline is thin but works for a game (let's not get into that argument). The only reason I'm not giving it a full 5 stars is because at times the game was a little twitchy and laggy. Also, there is no health bar and this frustrated me to no end. However, it's a great game and I'll probably play it through again at least once.
Graphics and story line are great in this 3rd edition of Fable. The hero actually talks in this version. Youcan select the breed of your faithful companion as well. Plenty of side quests to keep you hooked on the game long after the main story line is completed. An11 out of 10 for this one.
I found this game to be better then Fable 2 with some cool new features such as spell weaving. I have spent a lot of time of it and will probably spent a lot more.
Great game lots to do dont rush through the game though as there is alot you can miss
Having ordered Fable 3 I'd been waiting patiently for it to arrive in my hot
little hands, the packaging alone accounting for a fair amount of anticipation.
After popping it in and playing it for a few hours I really did find myself
wondering where exactly “the new” stuff was.
It was hyped, it was thrown around as “greatest installment yet!” but…
I can't help but think that maybe Fable 3 has been struck by the Molyneux
curse. While it is fun to play (having sunk a number of hours into it and
enjoying it) it doesn't quite make me feel that it's changed over Fable 2, the
expression system being in my opinion a step backwards.
Now the community has claimed there are bugs and glitches and that the game is
unplayable… I haven't personally witnessed anything game breaking, a few slow
downs but nothing that makes me throw my controller down in disgust.
My only real problem with Fable 3…is that it feels like it ends way too
quickly and with no real sense of “I did it!” as there was with Fable 2.
In the end Fable 3 is a good game, but compared to it's predecessor maybe
isn't quite as good as it could have been.
So we all know who Peter M. Is right? So you know that he has some crazy ideas for games that sometimes don't turn out right. E No one can deny that the first and second had some major disappointments, but I still found them to be innovative and fun games. While some ideas faded away, others stood out but still needed some polish. We must forgive Peter eventually and what better time than now?
Now to Fable III.
As most people probably know, Fable 3 picks up a couple decades after the 2nd. You take the role of his sheltered son who hasn't experienced what Albion is truly like. Your brother is oppressing the land and you are being called to lead a revolution.
First thing you need to know is about the visuals. Fable III looks great. The terrain is varying and very well crafted. The art style has been improved so that there are (Thank GOD!) attractive men and women. The lighting is great and can really set the tone.
The gameplay remains largely the same, but with so many refinements and small additions it truly feels like new. The combat can be what you want it to be. You could go through the game spamming magic or mashing buttons, but then you will not see the awesome slow-mo flourishes and finishers. The game really does make the combat feel more cinematic and fun. The family system finally works with few hiccups unlike the Fable II. The way you interact with villagers has been streamlined and reduced to one person at a time interaction, but the new touch mechanic and holding hands makes making your wife sprint behind you as you speed to her favorite place less awkward and strange.
The new menu and map is very cool. It keeps you organized and makes everything you need readily available. The new map makes managing your kingdom a lot more interesting and not as tedious.
The story is great. Without giving too much away, there are many tough choices and interesting characters and quests throughout the game. It may not be as long as some might like, but if you explore everything Fable has too offer you will spend a large chunk of your time playing multiple characters.
While there are not as many flaws as GS would make you believe, there are few technical glitches. None were gamebreaking, but it could've used some more polish.
While some might say Fable has strayed too far from an RPG, the streamlining of the menu does not take away from the unique experience and characters players can create with their playing.
Overall, Fable is a funny, fun, and addicting game. Peter managed to keep his mouth shut this time around, and I was very happy with the money I spent on the Limited edition. I would recommend this game to any action-RPG fan.
Fantastic game, lots to do with quests for all level players. Graphics rock
with popular spells and abilities returning.
The only thing I didn't like was the fact you were unable to import your
previous character. Although that does influence game play. Awesome story with
plenty of thrills and spills
Great service , we loved the fact we could order and know we would get the best price…disappointed we have been unable to access a couple of the special features on the game…but this is xbox problem not Mighty Ape
It looks like Lionhead has really out done themselves with this sequel to one of the best games of 2008 Fable 2
Dont know if I will be getting this one, seeings the last one wasnt as good as hoped with it being to short and all but Lionhead Knows this and aremaking it better, putting episodes (taking free roam away) Letting you create your own weapons and as you kill enemies the weapon gets better, The evil and good points dontchange your looks permanently but when in the ugliest part of battle you show your true form. It looks pretty good and might change my mind.
I think when Peter Molyneaux gets the idea in his head for a game, it never quite comes out in the execution, so Fable III really is a case of trying to fix what he thinks was wrong with Fable II.
Because obviously the game he has in his head is Oblivion by Bethesda Softworks. There you have a free roaming environment, in an action rpg that allows you to make choices.
But really the failings of Fable II are just small things, like the interact button not always working, and the weird implementation of good vs evil. It's possible to buy back “goodness” with gold, even after murdering 50+ people and guards. The character interaction in Fable II was also quite horrific, in one case I went to give my wife a ring and accidentally gave it to a male member of society who was smitten with me… My Fable II wife wasn't too impressed by that, and neither was I…
All things said, Fable III is the game I want to play the most this year. Hopefully though Peter comes to his senses, and this will be the last Fable game and he goes back to doing what he does best, ie isometric strategy games. Personally I want to see him bring out Powermonger II, or better yet a “HD Version” of Populous II.
NO! you havn't because FABLE 3 isnt out yet!
A free roam like no other!
Be good or evil- they both have they're own specialities!
John Cleese, the hit star of faulty towers and many other hilarious brittish
shows plays a HUGE part in this game as he is on of the main voice actors, and
i can tell you, FABLE 3 is DY-NO-MITE!
