Ok, full disclosure, I am a fiend for Fallout.
Fallout 1 and 2 held some revelatory moments in gaming for me, when just for laughs I tried to derail game by doing the opposite of what was expected, not only did the game allow for that the continuity of the game changed!
Even today being able to take a game off the rails and down your own path forging your own story is a rare thing indeed.
Fallout 3 and the team at Bethesda managed to resurect the franchise after nearly a decade but kept everything that made it a Fallout experience to me alive.
In New Vegas, the development team Obsidian comprised of the original guys who worked on 1 and 2 bring it full circle with the humor and forge your own path approach that made the originals so brilliant.
And there are a few bugs but this is not an on rails shooter, there are so many variables its staggering, this is deep gameplay and you should be saving early and often anyway. (I lost more overall gameplay time in dragon age by not doing this than time lost due to bugs in New Vegas)
Is it worth it?
Let me put it this way my first play through was 120 hrs on Hardcore mode which has such things as dehydration, ammo weight and non invincible followers. I'm about 12 hours through my second, the story is already completely different because of my choices and have discovered whole new areas by taking the scenic route I hadn't found earlier.
My only complaint is the selections of songs on the radio repeat a bit often and could have drawn more on the rich source material. I'm serious, that's the biggest issue I have with this game.
The games in fallout series were always games I would never get sick of even if stuck on a deserted island.
New Vegas is no different.
