Firstly, and there is no getting around it, I have a big head. The standard mic on a normal XBox headset (or 3rd party derivative) misses my mouth by quite some distance nestling comfortably on my cheek at any given moment and turning my ‘charging forward now’ message to my online gaming friends into ‘mfffcg fheih noh’. No such worries with the Warhead, the mic picks up my voice with ease.
The audio out of this thing is great, I have it hooked up via optical cable to my amp rather than directly to the XBox so I can listen to movies and TV with it as well. A good range of frequencies can be heard with clarity and responsiveness. It has enough power to ramp the volume up to a decent level without distortion. I'm pretty fussy with audio (spent 12 years so far in professional audio), so for me to be happy with the sound the Warhead throws out is a big plus.
It is completely wire free playing games on the XBox, no wires from the headset to controller at all. Ace. Carry on your gaming chat while creating a sandwich masterpiece in the kitchen without worrying about getting mayo all over your controller.
Its reassuringly heavy without being too heavy to leave on your head for hours. I've managed a 4 gaming hour stint without any adverse effects whatsoever, and I'm pretty sure I could go for longer without hassle. Its comfy on the ears and it has plenty of range to adjust the headband size.
As I'm writing this, I'm still on my first battery charge, this is after several evenings worth of gaming and a couple of movies. You get 2 batteries anyway, so the action doesn't stop for long.
Minor annoyance – so far (and I haven't read the manual of course) I haven't found a way to determine battery charge without your XBox being on (when the battery charge is displayed alongside your controller's battery charge). I guess as most people would be using this on their XBox its not much of a worry, but being as I'll be using it for movies as well it would have been nice.
Overall a great product though and worth the price tag (especially as I got it in the boxing day sale!), definitely glad I got this headset.
