Annabel Langbein - Free Range In The City reviews

Love this book, even better than the last one. The glossy pages and loads of photos make this easy to follow, and looks great on the book stand. The recipes are easy to follow, using easy to find ingredients. Great for any beginners or experts alike.

I love this cookbook, just as good as ‘The Free Range Cook’. Beautifully presented photography, editorials and nice recipes. The padded hardcover is a great improvement.

I enjoyed reading about life in the city and where to find the fresh produce at farmers markets etc. The perfect book for basic cooks and the more professional chefs among us.

This book doesn't quite come up to the standard that Annabel Langbein set with Free Range in The Country. Still has some nice recipes. Remember this is my opinion only!

Sorry Annabel, but this one doesn't quite cut it. I made the Lemon Coconut Cake and it was a total disaster. I follow recipes to the letter and never normally have any trouble. This cake cost me a fortune to make – it has a load of ingredients that you have to buy in especially. It made more than 1 1/2 times more icing than I needed (so big wastage of cream cheese and 4 cups of icing sugar!) But worst of all, was the cake just did not cook in 1 1/2 hours, and being a big solid type of cake you couldn't tell until you cut it open! I ended up throwing the whole thing in the bin and wasting hours and hours of my time, and loads of ingredients.

I would have thought all these recipes would have been tested, but now I am scared to try another large one like that.

Like her first book easy down to earth recipes that the home cook can try. But is gives something a little different to the norm – a great book to have.

I agree with Sunny r.e. The lemon coconut cake – I'm definitely a beginner baker and it turned out beautifully for me. There was a lot of icing but if you're going to make a cream cheese icing you may as well do it properly! The chocolate chip biscuits are absolutely divine, and the variety and practicality of the recipes for different occasions means I'm buying this as a present for a friend who is just starting to set up her own apartment and loves to entertain.

Bought this for Mum for Mother's Day. She really likes it and is quite inspired by it I think – the book is really well put together, more than just a cookbook!

Have made the lemon coconut cake and the carrot cake and the are both amazing. Most ingredients are in the fridge or pantry. Cakes great for feeding a tribe!

I don't agree with Teresa's Lemon and Coconut cake review. I am a baking beginner and I have made the cake last weekend, it does need a bit longer time to cook through and it's heavier then I thought, but like all the baking stuff you need to use a stick to instert into the cake to test if it's cooked through and I did so. All my friends love this cake and one of them even said she will buy all the ingrediants and she wants me to make another one for her. I think her recipe is great!

Wide range of dishes to choose from and easy to follow!
