"Removing Dedicated Servers for MW:2"
2 stars"

Oh dear. I'm crushed as well as the rest of the gaming community in the world. Activision, I did not know you could go so low. Congratz.

http://kotaku.com/…pc-community

The Multi-player for MW:2 will now be like consoles – mix and match, no moderators, no modifications, NO dedicated servers.

Which means there is no personality, very difficult for clans, and the game play – I think – will be awful. The poor language, spamming, arguments, the behavior and the noobs who will be able to play in pro servers etc… no control. Nothing. What a waste.

I was so excited like the rest of you about the game, but now I won't be purchasing this game. How dare they strip the PCs world of Dedicated Servers for one of the greatest games for this era – which is a great separation between the superior PCs, and the interior consoles. Well, no longer. The consoles are taking over one step at a time.

Epic Fail.

"IW somehow stuffed up"
3 stars"

I sure singleplayer will be good BUT most people are buying MW2 for the multiplayer. NO DEDICATED SERVERS, why would you think of even doing that? no dedicated servers mean noob spamming, hopping, swearing, RnG and no admins. I'm quite sure IW will realease a patch for dedicated servers because of poor sales. But in the end, SERIOUSLY? NO DEDICATED SERVERS? I'm not spending $100n to get spawn camped.........

"No dedicated servers!! WTF"
2 stars"

Infinity Ward has ruined Modern Warfare 2 for PC. There will be no dedicated servers for the game, there for the servers browsing screen we have all come accustomed to will be gone. Games will be hosted through our own internet connections depending on who starts the game, meaning we as New Zealanders with our inferior internet connections will have terrible ping and lag, causing us to have terrible online experiences. I recommend holding off on buying this game until IW decides to tell us all of the details rather then keeping us in the dark.

Good luck all, and I hope we don't all suffer because of this.

If your planning to buy MW2 for pc for online play, this will not be possible as IW has recently stated they are not putting dedicated servers in MW2:PC. This means you will not be able to play on servers, you will have to host games for your friends to play on, this is impossible on NZ internet as residential bandwidth will be unable to cope with more than 4 players don't buy it until IW realize their mistake

"Fear the mulitplayer....."
3 stars"

Infinity ward have decided in their infinite wisdom that all mulitplayer games will be played through their own servers.

There is a matchmaking system to find “appropriately ranked” opponents.

All DLC for this game will be a charged item, like consoles.

And if you and mates wanted to have a multiplayer game, you cannot setup a game with mods, as IWs servers won't allow them.

Thank goodness I only play single player in the CoD series on PC. What a joke.

"Don't buy this game...yet"
1 stars"

Ok guys, I have one favour to ask of you all fellow NZ pc gamers, DON'T FEED THE BEAST. hopefully we all know that no dedicated servers means that we will all be playing multiplayer with an average ping of 200+. Who in their right mind would ever play an fps with 200+ average ping? Not any sane gamer I know of at least, ping and latency is the least of the problems caused by this utter dickmove (others include no indie modding support, no server moderators and many many more). The whole point of releasing a PC version is to provide additional features console versions do not, to compensate for the extra cost PC gamers have to spend to buy a suitable gaming rig (instead of a cheaper console alternative), a staple of these ‘extra features’ and most certainly the most vital feature is DEDICATED SERVERS!! I'm not saying to completely avoid this game, the only thing I'm asking of you fellow PC gamers is to hold off buying this game UNTIL Infinity Ward gets their head out of their asses and patch the PC version with dedicated server capabilities once it comes out.

Can't believe IW would sobtage the best part of the COD series. No dedicated servers.. they practically shot them selves in the foot. Not surprised alot of people are boycotting this game.

Why take away a feature which worked well in Modern warfare 1 and charge us more for the game. Makes no sense.

Im guessing single player will be great, and multyplayer will have great potential.. bar the server problem

"Multiplayer Ghost Town"
2 stars"

As many others have stated, Infinity ward have now removed the Dedicated servers, opting to run all hosting through their to be launched IWNet System. This might not be too big of a problem for those in the USA, but for anyone outside of there it means high pings, laggy games, and just generally unplayable.

Not to mention, it will also mean there will be no way to create and add custom content to the game, so no more modding, no more promod, etc etc

Single Player still looks promising, but if it's anything like Previous Call Of Duty's it will be fairly short, and is mainly setup as a introduction to the game to get you started for Multiplayer – like COD4 was.

"NZ Experience may be limited now"
2 stars"

The recent announcement in relation to the lack of a dedicated server for MW2 in compbination with the notorious NZ lag when using overseas servers is ominous for this game. The question must be asked is it now worth the premium pricing that has been placed on it given under undelying uncertainty of the online play experience.

Myself, I'm dissapointed at this development. I was looking forward greatly to this release. Now I really dont think the length of the single player campaign (of less than or equal MW1) adds up to enough reason to part with the cash. Such a shame – I really do hope to be proven wrong.

"Dissapointing moves have tainted my opinion"
1 stars"

Once again another producer has decided to force a third party app on its consumers by way of STEAM. Fair enough if you want to use steam for downloading games, its great for that but one should never be forced to use such things on a boxed retail product. Why would you not just save some cash and buy it directly off steam instead? Your disc and packaging is essentially worthless so why pay for it?

I question the logic of alienating part of your market just to spare yourself some loss due to piracy (Not undeserved i might add – some Copy protection methods assume we are all pirates out to ruin manufacturers when truth be told, prices, lack-luster products and paranoid copy protection methods have forced some people toward that very area)

IW needs to take a leaf from the Book of ID and GPG in regards to copy protection.

The game does look good and its probably plays great, The original being one of the best shooters i have played for a long time. Brilliant moments of frantic action with a really well developed engine and balanced set of weapons. MW2 Promises even better looking visuals and game play mechanics to boot. Multiplayer on the PC is instantly kneecapped by the loss of dedicated servers but should still be good on a LAN (If you don't forget to put STEAM into offline mode first :/ ).

In conclusion i feel we PC gamers have been given the cold shoulder when it comes to both Copy protection and Dedicated server support and for that i rate it low! just like i now rate Infinity ward and Activision.

"Modern Warfare 2 - Dont Buy Till Critical Components Fixed"
1 stars"

If you are buying for PC and want a riveting MP experience, don't expect the same as all previous COD games.

  • No Dedicated Servers
  • No Mod Tools
  • No Lean
  • Maximum MP 9 v 9
  • SP = 10hours tops
  • MP Peer to Peer
  • IWNET = Xboxlive 4 PC
  • Steam activation
  • No Punkbuster , Steam VAC
  • PC game not finished
  • GAME OVERPRICED

I urge you to wait and see what happens AFTER the release. If everyone is expect the same as before, it will not be.

At the very least, if they provide Dedicated servers with ability to have larger matches 12 v 12, 16 v 16, Mods tools with custom content, I would at least buy the game.

I have no doubt the base gameplay will be as good as previous games, but with all the above, game will be short lived.

Till then. Not buying. Watching and waiting to see reaction of unsuspecting purchasers and what IW do to fix.

"Seek elsewhere for Multiplayer game."
2 stars"

With the removal of Stand Alone Dedicated Server files, MW2's only option for multiplayer would be peer to peer hosting.

This means no hosting services with huge upload speeds, you will only be able to host games on your PC and your upload speed only. This translates into poor ping and stability in game sessions. For an average NZ player the maximum player per session would be approximately 4–8 people only.

Infinity Ward is now catering to console market solely now, PC market for them is a mere afterthought. The only reason they are even releasing a PC version is to milk some more money out of us PC gamers.

In conclusion, if you are looking for an online experience similar to CoD4, look elsewhere. If you are a PC gamer who is sick of watered down, poorly ported games, also look elsewhere.

"Things won\'t be that bad"
5 stars"

Although many people are complaining about the lack of dedicated servers I am surprisingly confident that all will be ok. I sympathise with the modding and map making part community and I understand the loss that they are feeling. Being a Valve fan I know how much modding and mapping can affect a game for the better.

However for the average PC gamer lack of dedicated servers will not be that much of a problem. Recently I started playing Halo 2 on PC and used its match making facility and found a few decent servers. Even though most of the players where form the united states I was still able to play with relatively low lag, generally coming at least 4th in a snipers only game type.

Therefore with proper net code I believe that the multilayer aspect of MW 2 will not be too damaged.

As for the single player part of the game it is going to be fantastic. The trailers look awesome and the plot seems like one of an action movie.

"Buy it"
5 stars"

First one was epic and everyone still plays it online, hopefully they make this one just as good. Its good to see call of duty branch out from the world war scene, although treyarch did do a awesome job of world at war, hopefully the games lives up to its hype and InfinityWard make the best first person shooter ever! Cant wait its a must buy!

"Wait until you can play the game"
5 stars"

There was been a lot of complaining about the lack of dedicated servers and how it will destroy the community. It seems that IW are keen to offer a lot of settings for the “private match” set up so this feature may allow clans to set up games more or less to their liking. I have a group of mates who game together and while we can't afford to rent a server the match set up options should give us the ability to set up games how we like. For many the release of MW2 will be a big change and it seems the clans and modders are struggling with it. For the more casual player who enjoys online gaming but isn't in a clan I think MW2 give them more acesses to define their online expereince.

Maybe this move does bring the PC gamers into line more with the consoles but I never hear the console gamers complaining about their game setups.

So I would urge people not to be put off with the “warning” reviews and to make up their own mind about the game.

This game looks intense. The multilayer will be insane and full of action, and the trailers make the single player to have an even more exciting and thrilling story than the call of duty 4. I cant wait for this game.

"COD MF2 Will definatly be a HUGE hit"
5 stars"

Call of duty 4 was a superior hit. as infinity ward made a new and excellent themed game. from what i have heard and seen. call of duty MF2 will be an extremely AWESOME game. I am defiantly going to buy modern warfare 2. Call of duty 5 which wasnt made from Infinity wards was still a very interesting and fun game. but still Infinity ward will hopefully have a huge success towards modern warfare 2 and carry of building there future games. (i heard new guns come out for MP) HAVE A LOOK AT THE MULTILAYER GAME PLAY!!

"EPIC!"

Purchased on Mighty Ape

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is going to be “EPIC”. Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer was amazing this is going to be even better. More Perks, Unlocks, Challenges and Customizations with Unlockable killstreaks about 15 to chose from and unlock, New Deathstreaks, Weapons and attactments and even have 2 attachtments with the Bling perk. As well as the multiplayer the single player will be 'EPIC" following on from where Call of Duty 4 left off. This game is going to be the PC game of the year for sure!

Already won many Game of the Year awards and Editors choice awards, Modern Warfare 2 hasn't even released yet… With everything good of Call of Duty 4 and even more… The best Call of Duty ever will release 10th November so Pre-Order before its too late.

"Best First-Person Shooter of the Millenium"
5 stars"

Activision created something never done before, they created a very intense and epic game. MW was, is and still currently one of the best all time played online games. Everyday servers are full, if MW is this great, imagine what MW2 would be like, but imagine it with more intense firepower as if you were there, thats what i call a great game.

"Can't Wait Cant Wait! "
5 stars"

If MW2 is anything like the first Modern Warfare game then this will undoubtedly be THE game of Summer 09/10.

Insanely good gameplay, graphics and storyline is what makes Call of Duty series one of the best FPS games out there.

Its worth upgrading your graphics card – just so you can run it with all the graphics turned to max. AAA+++ Game.

5 stars"

Call of duty 4 was epic in every sense great story, game play , weapons if the second is better that call of duty 4 which won over 40 awards than this games is going to be the best easily for 2009. The shorts for this game look intense and the graphics are amazing, apparently there are more weapons and better game play, I hope infinity ward can live up to all the hype
