Author Biography:

Valerie Francisco-Menchavez is associate professor in the Department of Sociology and Sexuality Studies at San Francisco State University. She is author of The Labor of Care: Filipina Migrants and Transnational Families in the Digital Age (University of Illinois Press, 2018), which won Honorable Mention for the 2020 Association for Asian American Studies Book Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Social Sciences. Robyn Magalit Rodriguez is series editor for the Critical Filipinx Studies series. She is author of In Lady Liberty’s Shadow: Race and Immigration in New Jersey (Rutgers University Press, 2017) and Migrants for Export: How the Philippine State Brokers Labor to the World (University of Minnesota Press, 2010). She is also the editor of Contemporary Asian American Activism: Building Movements for Liberation (with Diane Fujino; UW Press, 2022), Asian America, 2nd Edition (with Pawan Dhingra; Wiley, 2021), and Filipino American Transnational Activism: Diasporic Politics among the Second Generation (Brill, 2019).
