Concerning today's crop of stars of martial arts movies, I never thought anyone could come close to Jet Li. Well, as Ip Man, Donnie Chen has more than come close–he's right up there with the Jet!

He's the Americanised Asian martial arts master (gleaming white, unnaturally perfect teeth, did he have plastic surgery?) next to Jet Li's down to earth, plain vanilla polka faced, hard-as warrior. With such a warrior/gentleman as mentor one can see how Bruce Lee was inspire with his unique philosophy–the portend of today's mixed martial arts.

Enhanced by Matrix-like/Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon fight scenes (done just right, not over the top) technology against the backdrop of the Japanese invasion this is one great movie that for me (as someone who saw all the classics like Enter the Dragon, Eagles Shadow etc in the 80s as a boy) has generated freshness into the genre, something that I didn't think was possible because I considered those earlier classics perfect and impossible to improve upon. Enuff said. Great movie, get it. If you're a martial arts movie buff Ip Man should be the start of your Donnie Chen collection right next to your Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Lee collection.

This movie follows the legendary kung fu master Ip man. The movie has a very good storyline with amazing fighting scenes. This movie doesn't start slow, There is awesome martial arts fighting form the very beginning until the very. This is a must for anyone that likes martial arts movies.

ip man is my favorite movie ever. its got some awesome fight scenes and a decent story. bad thing for some people is that there isn't any eng dubs only subs. but in my opinion if they had dubbed it, it wouldn't be authentic and dubs always ruin Chinese movies for me.

Anyone even vaguely interested in martial arts films or culture should already have this movie, if not add it to your cart immediately and thank me later. This is one of the most monumental kung-fu flicks of recent years, is damned entertaining while giving a little insight into the legend behind the master himself (thats Bruce Lee for anyone not paying attention).

One of the best movies of the genre. Excellent story to go with the action. It will not disappoint.

A great movie to watch. Based on a true story makes this movie really enjoyable and fascinating to watch not only for martial arts fans but for anyone. Usually subtitles can be very of putting but I think in this movie it works very well.There is also some very good acting to go along with the amazing story.

Donnie Yen brings life back to Wing Chun, which has seldom gained cinematic exposure due to its lack of flamboyance when compared to wushu.

Not only is this film outstanding in its action sequences, it is beautifully filmed, bringing a wonderful balance of martial arts skill and cinematic quality. The fact that my Mum, who has a fairly low tolerance for action films, watched the whole thing and enjoyed it, speaks volumes for this film.

A modern-day classic.

If you like Wing Tsum Kung-fu then this is a must watch..

This movie was made excellently to tell a story about the life of a legendary master. If you love martial arts and martial arts movies then this is a must see. Lessons will be learnt from this movie not just in a martial arts perspective but also lessons about life itself.

No stylised, cable supported, arty stuff here, just raw Wing Chun action. Bruce Lee's eventual Kung Fu Master. A must see classic kung fu action movie.

I had been looking for a copy of this movie for some time, was relieved to find both Ip man 1 and 2 available for my husband for christmas.

He had been raving about these films for ages! You saved me.

This movie is one of the best there is apart from the subtitles but still a great movie, brought it for a christmas present, i am so going to have to borrow it. not a movie you would get sick of. Anyone interested in it, i would say definitely yes get it now.

Great action, the sub-titles bit hard to follow. Fighting awesome hence buying sub_title dvd already seen redcliff which was a true epic in size 100,000's of extras, the best fighting ive seen and a good story you can follow even so its subtitle made me buy next 2 three kingdoms, and ip man

Fantastic movie, beautiful backdrops, awesome fight scenes. I don't know how historically correct it is but it feels real.

Best kung-fu movie out. True story, one liners worthy of a classic Arnie movie, well acted, and some of the best fighting action you'll find.

Loved this film, it exposed Martial Arts in its purest form. It was an awe inspiring film to watch with lots of culture, fight scenes and a great plot.

This is well worth watching if you have any fascination with Martial Arts.
