Description

Jeffrey Miller and his family strive to live a natural life. When they purchased a 5 acre homestead along a river in 2018, they christened it Cottonwood Bend Farm and set out transforming it into a sustainable place to call home. Our Bend in the River follows life and lessons learned at Cottonwood Bend Farm and even earlier, all the way back to the author's childhood. Memories of growing up on a small farm merge with the author's life and family's home on the river. Whether it's growing vegetables, immersing in nature, planting fruit trees, foraging for wild edibles, enjoying the river or playing in the mud, Our Bend in the River is a celebration of rural living and the natural lifestyle. Essays and stories cover a gamut of homesteading topics, from gardening to tree planting to sustainable living. Jeffrey Miller is the author of two previous books, Klasberg, North Dakota: Collected Stories from the Middle of Nowhere and Forever Towards the Sunrise: A Lifetime Lived in the Outdoors. As a freelance writer, he has had over 125 magazine articles appear in a wide variety of publications. He is also contributes a monthly column, "Musings from Cottonwood Bend," to the Cass County Reporter (ND) newspaper. Our Bend in the River is his third book.
