Description

This book covers the various designs of tanks and armored fighting vehicles in current use in the war in Ukraine. These include original Soviet equipment like the T-72 and T-80 plus newer designs such as the T-90. Russia has large stocks of armor as a legacy of the Soviet Union. However, many are older modes stored in poor conditions. The tank design team at state manufacturers Uralvagonzavod have produced modern designs such as the T-14 Armata, however, the forces deployed in Ukraine still rely heavily on older equipments such as the T-72B3. The conflict has also exposed the vulnerability of Russian armor to NATO-supplied anti-tank weapons, from countries including the UK. This has led to heavy losses while many armored vehicles have simply been abandoned due to poor morale and logistics. AUTHOR: Craig Allen, Ph.D., is a research ecologist for the U.S. Geological Survey, specializing in ecosystem dynamics. He is the author of ninety-seven research publications, many about tree mortality, climate-change-related drought and stress in the landscape, and ecosystems in the mountain West. A current project is the "Western Mountain Initiative: Response of Western Mountain Ecosystems to Climatic Variability and Change."
