Description

A radical look at the risk of contemporary genocide in France, the American South, Myanmar, Libya, elsewhere. This book is against forgetting. For twenty years the author has placed genocide warnings on the website nighislantern.ca, attempting to protect victim peoples across the world. Through the past ten years this reveals patterns of oppression which have led to genocide. These sequences of history further the struggle to recognize genocide, to avoid complicity. to confront the atrocities of our times and survive the future.

Author Biography:

I started writing in the early 1960s. A number of my novels, stories, poems and were published through the years. Since 1978 much of my work appears with one form or another of Gerald and Maas, a small press and imprint, partnered with the artist Julie Maas (we're also married). Since about 2001 I've written the website nightslantern.ca, concerned with the prevention of genocide. I still write poems but the urgency of endangered peoples pushes me toward journalism in areas which the media aren't able or inclined to cover. The current book I'm working on gathers my writings from the past ten years on genocides, SOURCES OF CONTEMPORARY GENOCIDE, by John Bart Gerald, with graphics by Julie Maas.
