"Hack and Slash"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

A real hack and slash fast paced game, nice gameplay and graphics. Single Player is as many have said is too short and the multiplay while entertaining doesn't quite go that extra mile that a DOW game could go. Other than that a fairly decent game all round.

"A game that promised so much, delivered so litte"
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

After the initial hiccup of delivery the game arrived. 11 hours later it was complete on normal.

The combat system is well thought out and fun, probably the best aspect of the game.

The storyline was OK, though the ending was rather odd. You can certainly see this was an open ending allowing for an expansion.

Multi-player is suffering the usual launch issues, lag, crashes and the like but this will be sorted out.

My biggest issue with the game as a whole was the length of time it took to complete. I searched everywhere, found everything and could've completed it in probably 8 hours if I didn't hunt around looking through every nook and cranny.

Fans of the genre will love it, personally I am happy and sad with it at the same time.

"Mundane"
2 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Unfortunately this is the most disappointing THQ title I have played.

The gameplay is mundane, the voices cliche & equal to a bad hollywood movie “GET THE SPACE MARINE” “KILL THE SPACE MARINE” and the game is a direct port from console.

This is from about one hour of playing the game. I cannot see why this game gets such high reviews.

I can however see how console gamers like the game.

""Success is measured in blood; yours or your enemy´s." - Titus"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Overview: Getting up-close and personal with the enemy is unavoidable – you will quickly become very efficient at combo's, executions and ‘crowd control’. The violence aspect of Space Marine is very satisfying.

Game-play ~4/5~ I found getting a grip on the game play mechanics very rewarding and involved only a few frustrations – such as overestimating my awesomeness on more than one occasion.

Captain Titus and his battle brothers are already veteran Ultramarine's, thus there is no fluffing around with skill point assigning or character building.

There is also no cover system, you're best to pick off enemies first with the Bolter/rifler or close the gap for the executions.

Take no prisoners, objective driven, no ‘side quests’ and arcade like – this linearity suits the Space Marine's and their specific circumstance perfectly.

Visuals/Audio ~ 3/5~ I had first thought the Unreal Engine was in use, however it turned out to be Relic's own Phoenix Engine.

As it is an in house purpose built engine, the well known Warhammer characters look superb. Graphics options exist in the menu to be turned on/off.

What I found most enjoyable; the close combat; is presented back to the player in stunning slow-motion.

The voice acting of Titus and his squadmates and also the Orks in particular, was really well done.

Controls 3/5 – Advance, backtrack, strafe & ninja roll are all you need to navigate Captain Titus to victory – he's no Sam Fisher (The camera/screen/ground shakes when he runs!)

The Combat system isn't elegant like Assassins Creed, it's more arcade like and free flow (Batman Arkham Asylum/City with out the lock-on but with plenty more enemies). ‘Stun’ your enemy, leaving them vulnerable to execution.

Re-playability ~3/5~ I completed the the game on medium difficulty in less then 10 hours. I spent a few hours in online multiplayer, with usually 3 or 4 others and an hour or so customising my Space Marine's gear. Like Left 4 Dead I enjoy the co-op ‘arenas’.

Actually really enjoyed playing this one through. To be honest, I have yet to complete Fall Out 3 after 25+ hours of game time, same deal with Borderlands. So it was good to ‘complete’ a game – since I don't have a lot of time for it nowadays. Cheers.

"Great concept, needs polish"
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Really great setting and some great game mechanics.

However, I felt that the single-player got incredibly repetitive very quickly.

The other disappointing thing was that the p2p multiplayer service that it offers is horrendously frustrating (lots of lag, no option for dedicated servers so pings are shocking when playing from NZ).

The co-op game mode (“Exterminatus”) is the redeeming feature which makes the game worth trying out.

"Not quite long enough"

Easy difficulty is too easy, medium about right but the games only got 16 lvls so its over rather quickly.

Great game but only about 9 hours play to it single campaign. some camera angles hard to see whats going on and Ork blood is grean not red. It is still a wonderful game and u don't notice the time slip by playing it. :-)

"Mind-numbing cliche-ridden click-fest"
2 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Cliche-ridden story. Hack-slash game play which quickly becomes boring. No story pacing, no challenge, nothing to care about. Rinse, repeat of the worst elements of 3rd person action. The only redeeming features are the W40k visuals, which admittedly are cool. Overall. Don't waste your money.

"A great game"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This game is easy to play and if you like a bit of mindless fun, buy it. There are some challanges along the way and they are not overly compilicated. I also like the storyline of Captain Titus, a very balanced space marine, as he tries to follow the rules, only to end up in trouble.

"Brilliant destruction"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Warhammer is a very fun game to play. Fighting off hordes of orcs using multiple weapons, both melee and ranged. The graphics and storyline are both really good. The game gets more difficult as you proceed through the story with new types of enemies appearing through out the game.

Definatly a game to play.

Graphics 8/10 Gameplay 8.5/10 Storyline 9/10

"Blood blood and orcs and more blood!"

A very awesome game, bulky marines thrashing their way through everything, I recommend this game to all who likes to slash and grind! with a storyline on the side! very good game

"When a price drops to clear a game, you know why."

I really enjoyed Dawn of War 2 but Space marine is really a waste of space on my hard drive. Yes there a lot of blood spilled and a good storyline but what do you really want out of a third person shooter/hack'n'slash. There was no X-factor and I am not sure really what the developers were thinking with the 2 dimensional aspects to the online multiplayer. Get it while its cheap as you may regret it.

"A good story of this universe..."
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

It is a good game, There are no major flaws with the single player…

The primary problem is with the lack of Australian/Nz servers for the multiplayer which then always results in lag ridden matches.

Other than that it is a good game and worth the money when ever it is on special.

"Addictive hack and slash with guns"

Purchased on Mighty Ape

Addictive and satisfying hack n slash with big guns, with decent graphics and smooth game play its easy to get immersed in the world of Space Marine, a must have for any Warhammer fan or anyone who enjoys a good rampage.

"Ork soup anyone -"

It has great gfx good sound and the damage the wepons do to the orks is mint

"One of the best warhammer based games out there."

A very fun game to play either by yourself or with others.

"Not bad for $20"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

For the price I paid for this game it was well worth it. The game offers players to hack, slash and shoot your way through multiple orcs with plenty of gore included. I found the game similar to Gears of War in a sense, but a bit lacking in narrative.. Dont expect things like driving vehicles or a wide variety of weapons – at least not in single player from what I know.. Gamespot.com rating – 7.0 out of 10 (good rating)

"Solid Game"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

A Solid storyline campaign single player – whether you know anything about the Warhammer 40k universe or not, this game tells an epic tale of a noble super-human “Space Marine” veteran commander and two of his honourable battle brothers, as they fight to save what is left of a besieged human world, under attack from Orks. As you proceed through the fascinating -although rather linear- environment, you get new weapons to play with, and discover in the story that there are darker forces at work than at first appear…

The multiplayer is good fun – finally giving an in-person taste of what action might be like for the 3 differently equipped classes of Space Marine – Tactical, Assault and Devastator (characters previously limited to the table-top and RTS games). More content for the game is promised to be released in future for the multiplayer aspect, which will be good, as one can't help feeling the limitations of Team Deathmatch and Capture-point play with only the 3 warrior classes.

"Good game, nice story worth getting"

Loved playing this, has some excellent features, just took a bit to get used to first up. I enjoyed blasting my way through stuff. Multiplayer has been fun. Just hoping the upcoming MMO builds on this.

"Visceral, visceral combat."
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

In the grim darkness of the future, there is only war. That generally sums up the setting of the universe that is Warhammer 40k. Being a long time fan of it. I met with this game with fuelled anticipation. Did it satisfy- It surely most did. From the gripping story, incredible voice talents and an arsenal of weaponry that not only kills your foe, but make a right bloody mess of things.

"Great combat system!"
4 stars"

If you're a fan of the action genre then you should at least try the demo on Steam. The combination of shooting and melee is just fantastic and really makes you feel like a supersoldier.

"Awesome/but a quick buck type of game at the same time."
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Story line was okay, didn't really end with a real ending. But that might be because they are working on an expansion.

Game play features were the strongest point of this game; I loved rolling the enemies with Captain Titus. Fighting mechanics were pure awesome.

Multiplayer is not so great right now due to lag. I get the feeling they aren't using severs, which sucks if you get a host on the other side of the world.

My biggest gripe with this game though is that single player only lasted 9hrs. I was also trying to take my time; I could have done it faster.

Personally I feel entertained and ripped off at the same time.
