"Great price for a great RTS series!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

To be honest, I started this game knowing nothing about the Warhammer 40K universe. (Except for that FPS they had back on PS2). Anyhow… Being a StarCraft II fan, I had shied away from this series for as long as possible.

Friends told me to give it a chance, and when I saw this complete collection on Mighty Ape, I committed to a purchase… And I'm so glad I did!

Even for a non-fan, like myself, you can get in on the action really quickly. It's familiar RTS-fare but it has the great twist of allowing you to customise and upgrade your heroes and squads. Which gives it this RPG style of gameplay too.

You're constantly hoping that you'll get better loot for your squads as you play through and it really motivates you to push forward.

Also, you can get some really nice graphics and effects without having a super hardcore PC rig. Which again makes it an enjoyable and immersive experience.

Three games for one price- This is a definite must-buy for RTS fans. If you were a skeptic, like me, you owe it to yourself to give this one a shot. You might just be surprised!

"A Real RTS"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Unlike the other reviewer here, I came into this game as a fan of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. I've read a couple novels & collected armies. So I'm biased.

This game is different to other RTS games. There's no building, no resource collection, no production. You get squads of Marines, charge at the enemy, and kill. To me, this is much more like what a Space Marine, or any field commander is in control of than with StarCraft.

There is of course still strategy to be had. Your different units have different roles to fill. Your Scouts will die quickly if you treat them like the other squads. Your Heavy Weapon team will be useless if you don't give them time to set up some place favourable. There's also the progression. You choose how to improve the units. Specializing in different areas with each unit. Different weapons you choose enhance this.

If you're looking for a fast paced RTS that lets you play how you want, with an interesting storyline, this should be at the top of your list!

"Diffrent but still good"

Purchased on Mighty Ape

I was told by a friend that it was different from the first one. Being a fan of the build a base style RTS, I didn't think much of this at first but then as I played it, I got more into it. A good price for a good series of games.

"fun and differerent"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

personally i really like this game, it has nice graphics for an RTS and goes beyond just building a base and fighting for the map like the 1st one. instead you are tasked with commanding several squads including a commander (which is you), at the end of each level you are able to fit each squad with different weapons, armour and abilities to suit your playstyle. the campaign is really fun and interesting and gets more and more instense with each chaper that is completed. i have not played retributions campaign or chaos risings campaign yet as im still trying to finish dawn of war 2 without it trying to freeze up on me at every level. the game does not need a grand pc and should run on anything around about 2–3 years old. at least it runs fine on mine :)

"Very different from first game"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I bought this game simply because I played and loved the first game. However it is pretty different as there is more focus on fighting and less on building. If your looking to buy this game, this is a very good deal. To be honest I prefer the fist game but I still love this one and I don't regret buying it

"Good Game"

This game is decent at an amazing price, though its not available anymore, I just want to say it is worth getting. The different races are fun to play.

"Great and different strategy gameplay!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Not only do you get just Dawn of War 2, but the two other expansions to expand the more fun!

The gameplay is unique when playing the Dawn of War series. Squads come with hero characters that can level up and that you are controlling 4 heroes at a time. Anybody who loves a bit of RPG elements will love this aspect of gameplay, which just ramps up how addicting this game already provides with its improved combat tactics

The campaign will keep you entetained for weeks, fast paced, exciting battles and beautiful graphics and fantastic sound!

"Awesome games, great gift idea."

Great compilation of the Warhammer 40k series, which will entertain anyone who's into the Warhammer universe, as well as providing a compelling experience for those who haven't heard of it before. The games provide easily over 100 hours of gameplay to finish the campaigns alone. Multiplayer modes and co-op campaign allow for further content and replayability. The product shipped fast, arrived the next day, and in immaculate condition. Shot Mighty Ape, love you guys.

"Brilliant game but packing is a bit different."

Great game, better than I expected. Packaging is different compared to what is shown in the picture. Only received two discs DoW2: Gold edition (which has the first two discs) and Retribution. Also, the box with the II shown on it is not included.

"Good Singleplayer for New Zealand"
4 stars"

This is a really good RTS game that focuses more into strategies and tactics like flanking and such rather than APM intensive multitasking like in SC2. It has a really good Campaign too.

The only problem is the multiplayer. If you're playing from New Zealand you're most likely going to get around 250~400ping on each custom/quick match game. And since the game slows down(everything in slow motion, unit movement etc) according to how fast the connection is; it can get quite annoying.

Its best to buy this game for singleplayer only

"Great Buy"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This is a Great buy at a Great Price, the reason is the stock appears to be out of Europe. English is the last option for language in the manual, but it is an option so no problem.

Installs as English and I haven't gone to the box/manual for anything other than a key.

"Not what I was expecting"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I bought this set having only played the Dark Crusade and Soulstorm packs for Dawn of War 1. It came as a bit of a shock to me when I found the gameplay was substantially different to that of it's prequel. However I found that I enjoyed the game the more I played it. The graphics are amazing and the game itself called for a new type of strategy that I am now loving.

"plenty of bang for buck!!!!"

"A good game..."
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Albeit not as good as the original dawn of war, it still retains the feeling instilled by the universe and the story of the various factions help the player understand the goals of each side.

Lastly, I personally thin they should have kept the original system of play, concerning building a base and subsequently an army which then leads to the demise of your enemies.

"If you love WarHammer 40k get this!"

An excellent way to vent all warhammmer frustrations from the game board to virtual, awesome story amd graphics

"Great RPG & RTS Hybrid"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This is a great RPG & RTS Hybrid. It is a simplified RTS compared to the first Dawn of War game, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. It introduced a leveling and xp system while still retaining the Wargear system from the previous DOW game. In DOW 2 however wargears are dropped by enemies and rewards for completing missions.

It runs quite well on my old Windows XP computer, until the angel gate mission where there's heaps of stuff going on (heaps of enemies and battles going on) my computer just freezes (it happens on the same mission everytime). After doing some research I found out that my Geforce 8500 GT might be overheating. I set the game settings in a roughly medium setting, turning off shadows and no Anti Aliasing with a native resolution of 1280 × 1024.

I dont want to drop the reso, so I decided to get a slighty better card that's not too expensive (and I found one on Mighty ape). At the moment im waiting for the card to arrive, I will write another review and tell you how it went.

Simply put… This is a great game, so much so I bought a new Card just to be able to play it on my old XP Computer. Recommended for RPG and Strategy fans.

If you know nothing about Warhammer this is a great way to get into it. If you believe this is a copy of Starcraft then you must buy it because after having hundreds of hours of fun with it you'll go to the internet (lexicanum anyone-) and start reading the deep, deep lore this IP has.

And eventually find out that Blizzard is the one who's copying GW.

A must buy for anyone who claims to like RTS and RPG.

"Blood Raven Onslaught !!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Indulge yourself into the world of Warhammer 40k again if you're a returning veteran of DoW 1 !

If not – Well don't fear, for the Emperor shows no prejudice to those who are new. Welcome recruit !!

DoW 2.

If you have experience any sort of Warhammer , being books, movies or table top games, you can equally expect a rich game of Warhammer 40k right on your pc. The RTS flavour has not died out BUT be warned that gaming style from DoW1 has. This fact to some players have only further discouraged them from purchasing, but fellow veterans like myself and others only found the game style more interesting and a-new flavour to the DoW series.

So what has changed dramatically-

Graphics has. With no doubt your Blood Raven's look much more masculine and shiny and spectacularly detailed. Zoom in, inspect and fall in the shadow of awe, because they look very good. DoW 1 was spectacular when reviewed in ‘that’ time. But DoW2 only made graphics better and greater and thus visually – There is no loss to owning this game.

Game style however has changed. If anyone have experienced Company of Heroes aka CoH , then you are in for the same battle system only that, no campaign or multiplayer game administer the creation of ‘sim city’ mechanics. Meaning, you do not get to build buildings and infrastructures to own a mass army production power. It all involves in squad and tactical skills and careful judgement when striking against the enemy. So what- Well that's where DoW2 may shine for some and may not for others.

I personally found it much more interesting. There IS no point where you can rely on resource for success. Blood Raven themselves, as a chapter, only proves their might in fighting against odd, and you, will experience such. There is a CHALLENGE to the game and I think that itself is a shine for this game. So no more of that tedious strategic point capture tug of war. And no more hearing of ‘need more something!’ to build or recruit. You purely have only what you deploy and after that- It really up to your skills. Plus, the ‘War gears’ have made it to DoW 2 (awwweee yeahhhh~! xD )so go on your item hunting like back in Soul Storm but just way better and easier now.

Content level: There is immense content and no doubt that you will enjoy it. Yes, it can get slightly repetitive but which game in this world is not- It is not as if games develop into something different while we are playing it. Its fixed, and it remains like so until something new arrives. Plus, because this pack contains all 3, you are in for some long long nights hearing ‘FOR THE EMPEROR !’ and other Space Marine shouts.

Verdict: Its awesome. Especially when falling into the world of 40k, its just spectacular. If doubt my amateur review then you may pay a visit to Meta Critic for further opinions from real authenticated reviewers. Otherwise, click that ‘Add to trolley’ button and be prepared for another great aspect of the mighty Blood Ravens!! :)

For the Emperor ! Rawr!! D:< !!! chainsaw the orc

"The Best of Dawn of War, All in One!"
4 stars"

Dawn of War 2 is a great series and definitely lives up to the name. With a more strategic focus than the original Dawn of War series, Dawn of War 2 sacrifices none of what made the originals great, but adds heaps more into the mix.

"It's a great games"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

It was my first Warhammer 40000 series game. However, I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that this is the game what I was looking for a very long period of time. Let me explain what I mean. :) Long long time ago, I used to play in such excited games as “Incubation” and “UFO” (first 2 series). I so love these games. I've spent so much time to playing them. Unfortunately, I can't find out any other similar games in a last time. I've read several WAR 40K reviews. Most of them evaluate it very high. I've curiously purchased it to just see why it so nice. What I've got more than I'd expected. It's the same game mechanic and aura which I so missed in Incubation and UFO. So if you played and liked these games WAR 40K is definitely should be in your purchase list. What I also like in WAR 40K is a very simple interface, control and excellent graphics. During the installation game will download heaps of data from steam. You should be ready to spent 4–6 GB of data for it. And it's the only one disadvantage which I've found. If you like strategy where do you need to think/plan instead of speed mouse clicking WAR 40K is your game. Regards, I

"An interesting twist on RTS"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

The decision to remove base building from Dawn of War 2 proved to be both a blessing and a curse. The action is more intimate and you really do get to think hard about unit placement and use of terrain in a tactical sense. The downside is that the campaigns are quite linear in nature and that may not appeal to some. I played the Space Marines campaign through first and that provided the most immersive experience because the trailers and movies all provided continuity to the central story arc. When playing the other races it is less so, but there are nice touches in the interaction between squads which is unique.

Overall I give this 4/5.
